MAXWELL SOCIAL WILL OPEN JUNE 15
The private dining club in the former China Blue space on the corner of Washington and Watts, Maxwell Social, has finished construction and will be hosting a few open houses in the next weeks before its official opening on June 15. The club will not have any food service, rather just a gathering spot for folks who don’t want to bring their guests back to their apartment! The minimum investment is $2500 and the fee is $250 a month. More TK when I get a tour.
FRIEDMAN’S FINALLY COMING?
A few people have asked and while the Friedman’s people have never responded, A. caught sight of work going on there this weekend. That’s in the Goldman Breezeway, next to Harry’s.
CHANSON CLOSED BY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
I am awaiting the reasons why: A. sent a photo this morning that Chanson Le Salon, or Patisserie Chanson, on Harrison and Greenwich, was closed by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, by their Division of Environmental Health. I know some neighbors had complained about trip hazards on their raised platform outside, but not sure if that is the issue…
LUNCH AT AU CHEVAL
I just noticed that Au Cheval, the burger joint on Cortlandt Alley, is open for lunch Wednesday to Friday from noon to 3p and brunch on weekends from 11a to 3p. Wouldn’t hurt to make reservations — there was a two-hour wait for dinner there on Monday night!

The Dept. of Health does not close places down for trip hazards. That would be the Dept. or Buildings or Consumer Affairs. You have to have real problems to be forced to close. Usually this is associated with chronic rat or roach infestations or severly unsanitary kitchen conditions. One word describes this – GROSS.

Finally after I submitted multiple complaints – on Saturday May 20- Chanson Le Salon removed the sidewalk platform that DOT issued them a violation for and told them the platform is prohibited and gave them 5 days to remove it. This was the platform my friends who uses a Walker almost fell on.
