A WEEK OF EVENTS IN WASHINGTON MARKET PARK
The extremely popular Music in the Playground series got postponed yesterday due to the horrible air quality, so plan for that next week, Wednesday, June 14, at 4p. Ladybug Day is this Sunday, June 11, along with the first of three concerts:
These concerts are geared towards kids, but Astrograss is an amazing band (I first hired them for the WMP concert series before they played for kids) and will make your day. See all the info here.
MAMBO IN BPC
In celebration of Caribbean-American Heritage Month, Franck Muhel & His Mambo Dancers will perform and teach the mambo on Saturday, June 10, at 6:30p at Esplanade Plaza. Learn the traditional steps of the mambo from the renowned dancer and choreographer Franck Muhel whom you may have seen in the acclaimed movie “In the Heights.” Then hit the dance floor with a live performance by the Mitch Frohman Latin Jazz Quartet. Sounds so fun. More info here.
METALWORKING DEMONSTRATIONS AT SEAPORT MUSEUM
The South Street Seaport Museum has started a free monthly event, Forging Maritime History, beginning on June 10 from 12–2p with metalworking demonstrations from professional metalworker and long-time Seaport Museum volunteer Barry Greene. He will demonstrate the historical art of crafting rivets, spikes and tools while highlighting modern reproductions of intriguing artifacts from the Museum’s collection. No registration needed; outdoors at Pier 16 and walk-ups are welcome.
JANZ SCREENING ON THE LES
A live screening of the documentary about longtime Tribecan Robert Janz, titled “Janz in the Moment,” will be held on June 10, 6:30p, at the Flamboyan Theater in the Clemente Center at 107 Suffolk. It will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Jo Wood-Brown with director Joanna Kiernan and others. The screening will kick off the Vision Festival, the premier FreeJazz, music, art, dance and film festival held by Arts for Art in New York. More here.
