THE NEW GENERATION THAT’S SAVING CHINATOWN
ICYMI (I did) The Times has a huge story on Chinatown, its history and the new generation of Asian Americans are fighting to keep the history and culture of the neighborhood alive. “A number of young Chinese Americans are choosing to anchor themselves in the neighborhood, a reversal of traditional patterns of assimilation, in which the children of immigrants tend to leave crowded urban ethnic enclaves for the expansiveness of suburbia. Some have family here…others are newcomers, drawn perhaps out of a desire to reconnect with the culture of their forebears or wanting the comfort of the familiar.”

THE ART OF WILLA NASATIR
Interview magazine has a Q&A with Willa Nasatir, whose show is at ChapterNY at 60 Walker. She’s 33 and she had a solo show at the Whitney in 2017. From Interview: “One notices the influence of both [LA and New York], in the vibrant, warm colors of her paintings and the soft grunge of her photography, which incorporates everyday materials like mirror, glass, and mylar and calls to mind the days of Flickr…The artist and I delved deeper into her third exhibition, spirituality, her days working at American Apparel, and the poetry of Irene Silt.”

SNEAK PEEK AT TSUBAME
Haute Living has gotten to the new omakase restaurant on Park Place: Tsubame, and calls chef-owner Jay Zheng a culinary trailblazer “as evidenced by the debut of his latest venture, Tsubame—a kaiseki-inspired restaurant…The term “kaiseki” hails from Japan and signifies a time-honored, multi-course dining experience meticulously crafted around the freshest seasonal ingredients. While many dining establishments in New York employ this terminology, genuine kaiseki masters outside of Japan remain a rare find.”

SNEAK PEEK AT 25 WATER
YIMBY got a rendering from the designers of 25 Water, which, when done, will be the largest conversion ever in the US with 1300 rental units. “The project involves the construction of ten new stories above the parapet of the existing [22-story] structure, the replacement of its brick façade with a modern fenestration with more expansive windows, and the gut renovation of its 1.1 million square feet of interiors.”
