Governors Island just added two pups to its working dog team — 2-year-old blue merle border collie Atlas, and 5-month-old border collie puppy Reed. And for the pictures here and the corresponding dopamine boost, you’re welcome.

The Trust also has two veteran border collie employees, Chip and Aspen. The four pups will work together to help control the geese population on the island and prevent the birds from befouling public areas. The dogs take turns staying overnight on the island, making the rounds at dawn and dusk daily.

Reed is named in honor of the late Jim Reed, a longtime member of the Governors Island family who maintained the island’s grounds and hired the first pack of working dogs in 2015.

And wait, there’s more! Governors Island will host its Winter Dog Days through April 30, 2024, and dogs can visit Governors Island every weekday beginning at 10a. This winter the island features an expanded off-leash dog park open daily in Colonels Row. The island is open to the public daily from 7a to 6p during the winter months. Dogs will require individual free ferry reservations, available online.
