New restaurant proposed for the Palm space

If Google is serving me correctly, an Argentinian steakhouse chain called Baires Grill is applying for a liquor license at 200 Chambers (aka 206 West Street) in the former Palm restaurant space. CB1’s Licensing Committee will hear from them on Jan. 10. Neighbors came out in force against the last applicant, a Caribbean restaurant from Long Island called Nuvo Kitchen.

Again, if we have the right folks, there are seven Baires in Florida (the last just opened a couple weeks ago) scattered around Miami and Fort Lauderdale, and their website says “coming soon” for a location on 50h and Eighth. The first of the restaurants opened in 1999.

Eater added the Coral Gables location to its list of top Argentine restaurants in Miami: “A casual dining experience with affordable food and friendly service, Baires has been a go-to spot in Miami for Argentine specialties for more than two decades. There’s a limited but satisfying selection of dishes, from cheese boards to seafood and juicy cuts of beef. The best thing to drink with the feast? Malbec, of course.”

    Thank you for providing more info on Baires Grill! I can attest that the locations in Miami are amazing. This will be a great addition to the neighborhood if the application is approved by CB1’s Licensing Committee.

    Out of curiosity I’d like to know why neighbors came out in full force against a Caribbean restaurant.. hmmm…

      I believe the Caribbean restaurants application hinted at a more nightclub like atmosphere. They were promoting bottomless brunch, live music, and dancing which the neighbors didn’t like too much.

    It is utterly incorrect and inflammatory to write that the “neighbors came out in force against…the Caribbean restaurant.” The restaurant, regardless of the type of cuisine, was applying for nightclub like establishment with live music and dancing, bottomless brunches, etc. which upset the neighbors.
