I ❤️ NY
D. sent word that there’s a new souvenir shop in the old Papyrus store on Broadway in the Woolworth Building (I was confused and thought he meant the one on Reade, in case you caught that). I am a sucker for that sort of tchotchke and I didn’t leave empty handed. Of course there’s nothing too surprising in there, though I have to say the personalized license plate key chains had an especially robust selection. (Nothing beats the City Store in the Municipal Building for NYC-themed gifts however.)
INDIRA CESARINE AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER
Tribecan Indira Cesarine, who owns The Untitled Space gallery on Lispenard will show her own work — called Lumiere — for one night on Jan. 31 from 6 to 9p at The Canvas 3.0 Gallery in the Oculus, 185 Greenwich. The exhibit will unveil Cesarine’s latest series of 20 photographic light paintings, her animated photographic NFTs, photography on aluminum, hand-welded steel sculptures, films by the artist and her “Lumière” series of wearable art created with photo-printed fabric.
SEAPORT ACTIVITIES FOR FEB BREAK
South Street Seaport Museum will host a new free family-friendly Interactive Sail Raising Tour for Kids, running from Wednesday, Feb. 21 through Sunday, Feb. 25, at noon, 2pm and 4pm. The tours will teach kids how to raise the sail on the historic 1885 tall ship, Wavertree.
LUNAR NEW YEAR AT MOCA
Museum of Chinese in America will host its Lunar New Year Family Festival — among tons of other events — on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 2 to 5p. It’s the Year of the Dragon! Tickets are $5/person. Kids under 2 free.
New souvenir shops just bring tourists to the neighborhood, adding to our already overcrowded sidewalks. How will nanny’s be able to push by with double strollers while they all stand around looking at our tall buildings.
