BEST DUMPLINGS IN CHINATOWN
I love an Eater round-up — especially since then I don’t have to do it — and this one dovetails well with the Lunar New Year: the best dumplings in Chinatown. They are going with, in this order: 1. North Dumpling 2. Vanessa’s Dumpling House 3. Jin Mei Dumpling 4. Tasty Dumpling 5. Super Taste 6. Shu Jiao Fuzhou 7. Carol’s Bun 8. Fried Dumpling 9. King Dumpling 10. Wu’s Wonton King. Not sure they will convince me to move up the ladder past my #1, Fried Dumpling on Mosco.

THIERRY DESPONT TOWNHOUSE SELLS
The Real Deal reports that the late Thierry Despont’s townhouse at 182 Franklin has sold. “A deal hasn’t been finalized yet, but the last asking price on the property was $19.5 million.” The architect, who lived here and had a huge impact here, died at age 75 in August; the property was listed in 2021 for $25 million. Despont bought it in 1995 for $750,000.

CITY’S BEST GUMBO IS HERE
Also according to Eater, the city’s best gumbo is here in Tribeca, at Filé Gumbo Bar, where “good Cajun-Creole has finally found a righteous home.” It is timed for Fat Tuesday. From Eater: “Tiny’s gumbo ($29) is available in nine permutations featuring chicken, andouille sausage, shrimp, and crab, or some combination thereof, but I recommend you begin with the “all-in,” with each of the four components contributing a flavor jag to the bubbling stew.”

TOP SELLING DEVELOPMENTS OF 2023
Crain’s reports that Manhattan’s top selling developments of 2023 were both here: Tribeca Green, a 265-unit project in Battery Park City that signed 141 contracts (more on that soonish), and 450 Washington, which inked 85 deals, this all according to the real estate agents marketing them. Both buildings are co-op conversions that began as rental buildings.
