Gene Schafer texted last Friday morning to see if I wanted to fake-fly a stealth combat aircraft at 3 p.m., and while I totally did, I couldn’t make it that particular day. So stay tuned for a New Kid post soonish.
In the meantime, the place is called The Squadron and it’s set up on the 10th Floor of 7 World Trade Center, on Barclay and Greenwich. They have real F-35 flight simulators designed for corporate types to “enhance fast-learning and driving concrete business outcomes.”
A session is an hour and a half, comprised of a teaching session, two 10-minute flights and a critique. Plus they put you in a flight suit! (Curious to hear why…)
The company has another training facility in Glilot, Israel, the website said; the two Squadron locations are the only civilian complexes of their kind in the world, using military grade F-16 and F-35 flight simulators. “Our workshops and training programs offer a unique and empowering experiential training experience, which includes challenging flights, navigation, and interception missions.”
I had the opportunity to do this as part of a learning and development class. It was a blast and the trainers are all incredibly impressive.
Gushing about an Israeli military-grade F-35 flight simulator right in our own backyard? How insensitive can you be, publishing this while thousands of innocent civilians are being killed by these same F-35’s at this very moment? What a lapse of judgment, Tribeca Citizen. Shame on you.
Thank you; I agree. Americans’ total remove and insulation (and in particular New Yorkers’ and Tribecans’) from the violence we perpetuate, and then use the tools of the militarism to find entertainment from, is incredibly troublesome.
What does strapping into a flight simulator and pretending you’re W on your way to an aircraft carrier ready to declare ‘mission accomplished’ have to do with leadership training?
Cannot wait to try this. Looks unique and invigorating.
