WINE BAR COMING TO CANAL
The amazing Lucia Pizza on Canal is opening an additional space next door on West Broadway called Lucia Alimentari. (That’s Jefferson Ortiz at the doorway, who filled me in when I walked by last month.) The plan is cafe by day, wine bar at night. And I hope pizza by the slice to go with either. He said they are aiming for March.
TWO GROUP SHOWS AT NYAA
The New York Academy of Art at 111 Franklin is hosting two big group shows through March 3: Big Stories features large-scale, contemporary figurative paintings influenced by the narrative tradition. The show is travelling from the Bo Bartlett Center at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. Also showing is the fifth installment of Eye to Eye, which pairs a prominent collector to curate work by eight second-year Academy MFA students. This year’s exhibition highlights the Collection Majudia of Anne-Marie Trahan and Pierre Trahan, founders of Arsenal Contemporary. More here.
WEDDING DRESS ATELIER ON BROADWAY
J. wrote to say that a new wedding dress store has opened on Broadway — Vivienne Atelier. They soft opened at 336 Broadway just north of Worth on Jan. 27. Will go by soon, since what’s better than looking at wedding dresses when you don’t have to actually try it on?
H&R BLOCK TAKES A SPACE ON CHAMBERS
H&R Block took a storefront at 86 Chambers, on the southside between Broadway and Church — and thanks for the photo and tip from J. “At least it’s not another smoke shop?!” she added. I believe this was Philly Pretzel and then Daily Goods for a minute, though it’s hard to keep track. Tax preparation might have more staying power!
