Mike & Son Barbershop, which has been on Church and Murray for two decades, since 2004, has closed up shop. This is major news, and a sad day, really. But the good news: Dr. Mike (Babaev) and Bobby will be operating out of their other shop, Tribeca Hair Salon, at 74 Chambers, just west of Broadway. (Thanks to E. for the note and the pics.)

“Thank you for all of your support for the last 20 years,” Mike wrote on the shop’s website. “Unfortunately due to the high cost of running a business in New York City, at this time we have decided to move and join forces with Tribeca Hair Studio just down the road.”

Mike opened Tribeca Hair Studio, as well, after the business at the barber shop on Church blew up and they realized they could use a second “unisex” salon. Before Church Street, Mike had operated for a couple decades out of the famed Astor Place Hairstylists, where he got the honorific attached to his name.

The shotgun-style salon offers shaves, blowouts, cuts, color and highlights, for men and women, adults and children alike. Find them here:
