SUMMER LUNCHTIME SERIES DOWNTOWN
The Downtown Alliance has a summer lunchtime concert series running on Wednesdays at noon now through July 17 at the Oculus Plaza and at the Noguchi Red Cube on Broadway and Maiden Lane. CHECK The performances feature nationally recognized artists in jazz, blues, salsa, soul and pop along with tap, swing, and modern jazz dancing. Here’s the schedule:
SWEDISH MIDSUMMER FESTIVAL JUNE 21
Battery Park City’s annual Swedish Midsummer Festival will take place this Saturday, June 21, from 5 to 9p, in Rockefeller at Chambers and River Terrace (it was traditionally at Wagner, which is under construction). Join in lively dance around the Midsummer pole. Make floral wreaths, enjoy a parade, children’s games, and Swedish delicacies. Traditional music by Paul Dahlin and fiddlers from the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. Dances led by Ross Sutter, a Scandinavian folklorist. Plus special guests: Brolle, Mademoiselle Carousel and many more! More info here.
SAIL THE HARBOR – FOR $525
J. caught sight of a Daily Mail story that says The Mark hotel has a sailboat at North Cove Marina that offers two-hour cruises to the Statue and back for $525. Looks legit! From the hotel’s website: “The 70-foot Herreshoff sailboat, one of the last in existence, can accommodate up to 25 guests and is available for private charter and ticketed experiences. This one-of-a-kind luxury nautical experience sets sail from Tribeca’s North Cove Marina for a two-hour journey southward into the iconic New York Harbor, with cocktails and a bespoke menu prepared by either Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten or Caviar Kaspia at The Mark.”
