September 20, 2024 Restaurant/Bar News
Thalassa, the Greek restaurant that has been on Franklin since 2002, is closed until further notice. M. sent word to me first, when she tried to make a reservation, and I checked in to see if they were renovating (that was me being hopeful). The answer there was no.
The restaurant is a favorite among, well, just about everybody. It’s been part of Taste of Tribeca for decades. Eric Asimov wrote it up in 2005, commending the fresh fish and writing, “With exposed brick, lots of dark wood and vertical spaciousness, Thalassa has the feel of an elegant townhouse. Blue and white do appear in the color scheme, though subtly, through lighting and materials, so that you don’t feel that you are walking into a cliché.”
I hope to update this with good news, and not add it to other recent losses — Sarabeth’s and Khe-Yo.

Oh no! I am going to miss this one…it was my favorite!
One of the all time best Greek restaurants. I have been dining there for about 20 years .
It wasn’t perhaps a cool ,hip place but the fine imported ingredients and well prepared food will be totally missed.
Had the most incredible party there as well .
They over delivered in every way !
This is disappointing news, also been going for 20 years and always wonderful service, ambiance, and high quality food…and not too crowded and not noisy. My understanding was the owner lived in the building and therefore kept expenses down. Hopefully they will reopen!
So sorry. I do hope they wlll reopen. If they do, we will be among the first to make a reservation.
When do you think you will reopen
