In the News: A new bar for Stone Street

THE BEDFORD OF STONE STREET
This is destination drinking for me: Eater has a review of The Bedford, a sibling to the one in Williamsburg, now at 55 Stone Street at William. From Eater: “This location of the Bedford differs from the Brooklyn location that debuted in 2010 in that it’s inspired by retro ocean liners and is more food-focused than its predecessor…The cocktails at Fidi’s Bedford prioritize Mexican spirits — which are having a moment — with bartender and beverage manager José María Dondé assembling a selection of rums, rums, clairin, and cachaça, as well agave, tequila, mezcal, sotol from Northern Mexico, bacanora from Sonora, and raicilla from Jalisco.”

FOCUS ON HUDSON SQUARE
The Times did a big feature on Hudson Square (this is my Field Trip with the head of the BID), and its attempt to distinguish itself from its neighbors south and east. From The Times: “Bordered by some of the city’s most valued public spaces to the west, the Hudson River and Hudson River Park, the neighborhood was once a gritty, industrial area that had been the epicenter of the printing industry in the early 1900s. Its past means that Hudson Square is architecturally different from many other parts of Manhattan, which are brimming with gleaming skyscrapers. Instead, it is dotted with scores of so-called groundscrapers — large, horizontal buildings with relatively few stories, many spanning entire blocks — that were once used for printing press manufacturing.”

LADDER 8 AND ITS GHOSTBUSTERS FAME
Fox5 did a feature on Ladder 8 and its place in cinematic history. “It’s the most famous firehouse in the world,” FDNY Ladder 8 firefighter Nicholas Vitucci said in an interview with Fox News Digital. “We really appreciate our place in pop culture.”

A MILK-THEMED TRIBECA BEDROOM
A giant mural of spilled milk (well, really poured milk) caught the eye of the team at Curbed. I am pretty sure that was designed by longtime Tribecan and interior designer Ghislaine Viñas ages ago. It’s awesome.
