Something new coming to the Caliza space
I will know more after CB1’s Licensing Committee meeting on Wednesday, but in the meantime, a new restaurant is coming to the former Caliza space, on the prominent corner of Greenwich and N. Moore. (Thanks to S. for the eyeball.) There is not much to learn from the LLC name other than it was just established on June 24.
Tribecan Josh Lebowitz opened Caliza Mezcal Bar y Cocina in early 2023; it closed in January 2024. He did a beautiful renovation (I hope they can preserve a lot of it!) of the space, which had been dark for a decade by my accounting.

The cursed corner! Every business that opens here lasts for less time than the one that came before it. The camera store, Peace & Love, the other cafe that came after Peace & Love and was gone in a blink. Tribeca Pizza is the only longstanding champ (though they didn’t have the corner itself), so of course the landlord kicked them out.
Maybe just close up the window and give the space back to the dentist office that was there in the 80s!
