THE NUTCRACKER AT THE WINTER GARDEN
New York Theatre Ballet Presents Keith Michael’s The Nutcracker in the Brookfield mall on November 22 and 23, 1p and 7p on Saturday and 1p on Sunday. Choreographer Keith Michael’s adaptation brings Tchaikovsky’s score to life in Art Nouveau-style circa 1907, featuring a cast of professional dancers and young performers. Admission is free. CHRISTMAS CAROL AT PAC NYC EXTENDED
I usually only mention free events, but this is a special one: The Perelman Performing Arts Center will present the Old Vic’s Tony Award-Winning production of A Christmas Carol. Previews start November 23, it opens on December 4, and it is already extended through January 4. A Christmas Carol fills the auditorium with holiday treats, music and merriment and a unique staging immerses the audience in London’s longest running adaptation of this beloved festive favorite. QUEEN SOFIA UNVEILS PLAQUE AT ST. PETER’S
Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain unveiled a plaque in honor of Diego de Gardoqui, Spain’s first ambassador to the United States and a key figure in the Spanish support for American independence. The Bilbao-born diplomat also, in 1785, laid the cornerstone of St. Peter’s Church on Barclay, the foundation of what would become the first Catholic parish in New York.
UNIQLO COMING TO WTC
Luis Vazquez spotted this in Fast Company: Uniqlo, which operates more than 3,600 stores worldwide, is opening four new stores in the city including one at the World Trade Center — I assume in the Oculus.
