••• Horrible: “A propane tank on a Frites ‘N’ Meats food truck [the one often parked by Whole Foods] exploded Monday afternoon sending two people to the hospital with burns, the FDNY said. The explosion occurred after the truck hit another vehicle on the southbound side of the West Side Highway, and southbound traffic was blocked for hours as firefighters responded to the blaze. The two men were taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and listed in serious condition with burns, the FDNY said. Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.” (DNAinfo)

••• The Broadsheet Daily recaps the debate over the Tom Otterness lion sculptures headed for the Battery Park City Library. If you’ve ever wondered why I complain about attending these meetings, read the article—it details every possible objection (“Linda Belfer, chairwoman of the Battery Park City Committee, voiced concern about […] the fact that the one of the lion cubs was tearing a book”). The most interesting one—if no reason to oppose the art—is an appalling incident in Otterness’s past: “In 1977, he adopted a dog from a shelter, shot it, and filmed the dog dying in a video piece—called ‘Shot Dog’—an act for which he first apologized in 1998, and for which emotionally expressed regret once again at last week’s meeting.”
