Restaurant from Carbone folks coming in early 2027 to Tribeca Grill

Eater confirmed its own story from March saying that Major Food Group, which has Carbone, Torrisi and Parm among others, along with hoteliers Ira Drukier and Richard Born (The Greenwich on North Moore, Hotel Chelsea, The Bowery), have taken the Tribeca Grill space for an American tavern and steakhouse. That commercial unit in 375 Greenwich was purchased by Drew Nieporent, Robert De Niro and several other investors somewhere around 1990, when they opened the restaurant.

Major Food Group confirmed with me: “We are thrilled to be taking over this iconic space and are excited for what’s to come,” they wrote in an email. “While plans are still in the early stages, we do not have additional details to share just yet. We anticipate opening toward the end of 2027.”

In March, the owners thought they might keep the name: “We are in the process of trying to finalize the lease, and we would like to try to keep the name,” Drukier told Eater, adding that the culinary vision would stay largely intact. “It would be the same theme — a grill for people to eat in on a regular basis.” The decor will likely change. “The style that was popular at the time looks a little dated now, so we would bring it up to a modern look.”

Tribeca Grill closed on March 1, 2025, after 35 years in the space. They auctioned off a ton of equipment this past spring — furniture, paraphernalia and decor — including the iconic chandeliers designed by David Rockwell.

NB: The family behind Beefbar is also working on a restaurant in the former Sarabeth’s space just down the block and retained the Rockwell Group to design that restaurant as well. More on that soon.

  1. This may well be the end. There may be nothing less authentic to NYC than Carbone and its restaurant brethren. Like dining in Las Vegas. How sad.

  2. This is fantastic! Cannot wait. Torrisi and Carbone crew know how to do it right. Best steak in city is at Carbone…and next, Tribeca.

  3. They started as Torrisi Italian Specialties in Little Italy and the founders are from Queens and NJ. How is that not authentic to NYC? Yes they have become very successful such that they now have a restaurant in Vegas – good for them! They are taking over a beloved and immense space that has been empty for over a year. I say welcome and good luck! And yes please bring back burger & Burgundy night!
