There’s so much going on in this town right now that a congressional race barely registers. But in fact, there’s a lot on the primary ballot and early voting is underway.
The congressional race is above my paygrade, but stay tuned for a solid summary and an aggregation of the latest news there.
Primary Election Day is June 23. Find your poll site here for both Primary Day and early voting. NB: your early voting poll site and Election Day site are not the same!
Early voting ends this Sunday, June 21 (yes, June is half over). The hours are generally 9 to 5p, and till 8p on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 16th and 17th. See exact hours here. Primary Day hours are 6a to 9p.
The candidates listed below are all Democrats; there are no Republican primaries for any of these seats. I have asked the candidates for the state senate and assembly seats to submit questionnaires and have a brief chat. The ones with links are complete; the others have not replied.
This may sound snarky, but there is a point to be made: of the 13 candidates below, only ONE has advertised with the TC or the Tribeca Trib.

So which of these will actually crack down on crime and improve quality of life in the city?
This obsession with “cracking down on crime” when it’s the lowest it has been in recorded history is troubling. If you mean addressing quality of life issues, homelessness and addiction sure but crime isn’t the problem.
Checking and indeed it seems murder and many categories are down to record lows, though of course we can always do better. But some categories are up substantially over the recent years, such as felony assault and hate crimes. And yes, I am referring to quality of life crimes etc. also. That includes the ever-proliferating counterfeit vendors, public urination, littering. Also street safety issues as some streets like Canal Street feel like a Mad Max scene: speeding, red-light running, blocking pedestrian crosswalks, etc. We were also just victims of one of the more serious crime categories, right here in ‘safe’ Tribeca, so perhaps I’m over-sensitive to the issue.
I also question the reliability of reported crime stats, as NY has repeatedly been accused of manipulating these over the years.
From AM NY: https://www.amny.com/news/may-2026-crime-statistics-from-nypd/
“Felony assaults continued to rise by .4% (2,734 vs. 2,722) in May. It is a scourge that has been increasing over the past “several years,” according to the NYPD. The main drivers of the felony assault spike are domestic incidents (54% increase since 2020), assaults on police officers (103% increase since 2020), and assaults on other government workers (200% increase since 2020). Hate crimes also increased 74.4% last month compared to May 2025, fueled mostly by antisemitic attacks. Reported crimes against Jewish New Yorkers jumped 70.8% compared to the previous May (41 vs. 24). Crimes against Muslim New Yorkers increased 66.7% during the same period (5 vs. 3).”
Ran into and had a chance to meet and chat with Brad outside Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope last week. A true mensch, and I look forward to voting for him whenever I get around to going!
