The Sheraton Tribeca, which opened on Canal in 2010, has just gotten a big refresh, the first Sheraton in the city to get Marriott International’s “reimagination” of the brand (there are 430 worldwide). The hotel renovated all 369 renovated guest rooms, adding electric standing desks, acoustic noise-dampening panels and new furniture. But what piqued my interest is they are encouraging the public to use the fully renovated hotel lobby as a third space.

And this adds to the action all along Canal — new stores, new developments and *hopefully* an improved pedestrian experience. (The mind-bogglingly intractable counterfeit market remains.)

There’s a community table — a work/gathering area with tech-friendly tables, built-in wireless mobile charging and ergonomic seating; soundproof private booths within the lobby for phone calls and video calls; and a rentable studio for small meetings or remote work.

There’s also a rentable flex theater room for private events or movie nights as well as a couple other rentable meeting spaces.

The building’s 369 rooms are spread out over 21 floors (the elevators list 22 because as in many buildings, there’s no “13th” floor). The coolest space — a roof terrace with 180-degree northern views — is only open to guests most of the time but it can be rented for private events. More on that when they open it. (I wish they could have added an entrance on Lispenard…)

The hotel appears to be sold out through October — I finally found a midweek room in November for $489. Early in December it jumped to $861. Holy cow. I’m glad I live here.

The cafe and bar is called &More and is now open for breakfast and dinner — they are still finalizing the lunch menu. Right now there are grab-and-go offerings and dinner is sharable plates, rather than a formal menu.
