In catching up with longtime Tribecan Adger Cowans, I was turned on to the photographs of Daniel Root, an East Villager since the ’80s who wanders the predawn streets of Lower Manhattan, camera in hand. Root is a fine art photographer and a principal in the visual arts firm The Root Group. His early-morning images are part of an Instagram project as well as a photography book titled “New York Bars at Dawn.” Root’s newest book is “The East Village Then and Now.” Find his work at rootrootroot.com and @danielrootphotography.
These are just a few of his captures from the darkened streets of Tribeca.
