Dominique Strauss-Kahn Is Now on Franklin Street
From a reader: “Just making sure you’re aware of the latest piece of crappy news to hit our neighborhood. I was walking home from the gym this evening and noticed a group of police officers and journalists gathered on Franklin between Hudson and Varick. I decided to see what all the fuss was about when suddenly a caravan of cars pulled up. I unexpectedly witnessed [former IMF head and accused sex offender] Dominique Strauss-Kahn get out of his too-fancy car and stride into his newly acquired too-fancy townhouse on Franklin Street. Nice jail, pal. I gave him a not-so-friendly greeting by yelling, ‘Pig!’ (It was the best I could come up with on short notice). What a bummer for everyone on that beautiful block—and for the rest of us watching so many of the good things in Tribeca slip away.”
UPDATE 5/26: I just walked down Franklin, and I can see why residents of that block might be annoyed. I mean, Strauss-Kahn’s alleged actions were obviously objectionable, but seeing as he’s under house arrest and hardly a threat to anyone, it didn’t strike me as that big of a deal. But check out the media presence across the street….

For sure he’ll be ordering from the French Cafe Josephine down the block on Greenwich St. ….but will wonder why there are no good Chinese TO places in Tribeca.

Erik, while he is probably not a threat to anyone directly, his presence is surely unnerving (and totally icky) to people on that street–media circus notwithstanding. Also, apparently he is getting a $250K severance package from the IMF, partially paid for by US citizens. Not only do the rich get richer, but this is a sickening reminder that the rich get a better life always.
