In the News: Century 21

She looks like she's being arrested

••• Someone’s prepping for the 9/11 Memorial influx: “Century 21 will add about 76,000 square feet of new retail space at 22 Cortlandt St., including a cafe and additional dressing rooms and bathrooms, said Betty Cohen, director of corporate relations at Century 21. The store will then renovate its adjacent 120,000-square-foot current space, widening the aisles and spreading out the merchandise. ‘What we want to do is make it a better shopping experience, Cohen said. ‘Everything can be much more enjoyable. We want you to stay longer.'” You had me until the last line. (DNAinfo)

••• “UBS AG, Switzerland’s biggest lender, may move the staff of its U.S. investment bank from Stamford, Connecticut, to the World Trade Center in Manhattan by 2015, a person with direct knowledge of the plan said.” Details: 800K square feet in 3WTC. (Bloomberg)

••• “Three hours after they first set foot inside P.S. 130’s large brick building on Baxter Street, Tribeca parents spoke effusively about the school: They liked the principal, were impressed by the test scores, and felt less anxious about the amount of homework their kindergartners would be assigned.” (Tribeca Trib)

••• “Residents of Battery Park City may have noticed the new bike lane signs and markers that guide cyclists from the West Street bike path around the World Financial Center and back. On Tuesday, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey began updating signage for the bike detour route.” (Broadsheet Daily)

••• Broadsheet Daily on tomorrow’s pro-firehouse rally at 11:45 a.m. on the west side of City Hall Park: “Speakers will include UFA President Steve Cassidy, UFOA President Captain Alexander Hagen, International Association of Firefighters General President Harold Schaitberger and dozens of other prominent officials and speakers.” Emphasis mine.

••• “Dominique Strauss-Kahn is making his court-ordered summer abode as cozy as can be, and has shipped up everything from artwork to his favorite house slippers from his Washington, DC, mansion. Movers yesterday brought a sofa, coffee table and dozens of cardboard boxes—including ones marked ‘kitchenware’ and ‘slippers’—into his TriBeCa townhouse.” That’s just about the entire article. 1. Century 21 is so unbearably crowded for me, that I dash in, buy socks and run out. It’s not for the faint hearted and you certainly can’t browse there. Wider aisles would be most welcome!
