In the News: Damon Dash’s Foreclosure

••• “It is not obvious from the deed names of record, but the July 15 sale of the Manhattan loft #5F at 79 Laight Street (the US Sugar Building) [right] was of the second of two lofts previously owned shared with the bank by former phenom Damon Dash.” Manhattan Loft Guy looks at who won and who lost: “I will guess that the bank is still out seven figures and the two condos six figures. I will guess that the condos secured judgments against DD, but that those will be very hard to collect on, going forward. (His former neighbors are rooting for his future success!)”

••• “Mayor Bloomberg yesterday defended the right of a group of atheists to file a lawsuit to block the return of a cross made of steel beams to the World Trade Center memorial, saying the nonbelievers have rights, too. ‘You’ve got to be careful in criticizing people. No. 1, they have a right to sue, and we’ll see what the judge says,’ Bloomberg said […]. ‘This group of atheists, they’re free in our country to not believe and not practice, and we should defend their right to do that, just as we should defend individuals’ rights to practice and to believe.'” I’m not sure the “No. 1” reason is that they have the right to sue, but whatever. Go Bloomberg! (New York Post)

Anthony Notaro and Rosalie Joseph, who jointly founded and have collaborated for ten years on the neighborhood’s annual block party, have decided that, ‘this will be our last year running the show,’ says Ms. Joseph.” (Broadsheet Daily)
