OCTOBER 20–NOVEMBER 28
Jack Webb’s “Showing Off in Private” is at No.10 Gallery, a new gallery within the Ms4 Production office at 10 Leonard. Webb wanted to shoot his parents having sex (!), but knowing they’d decline, he photographed strangers who were game. It’s nice that they all found each other—not every pot has a lid.

OCTOBER 27–NOVEMBER 19
At Canal Park Playhouse: “On the Line deals with the fall out between three friends when the workers go on strike at the factory where they are employed. Originally produced in 2006 by Mike Nichols—before the subprime market crashed, the banks were bailed out and unemployment spiked—now is the perfect time to revisit this touching and relevant play.”

OCTOBER 28
“Historic Trinity Church in Lower Manhattan will host a frightfully good time for the whole family on October 28, starting at 4 p.m. Children are invited to the north churchyard to enjoy treats, face-painting, crafts and other fun, and chat with ‘ghosts’ from old New York. The south churchyard will feature music and dancing where adults, if they dare, can try a ‘spirited’ Haunted Hamilton cocktail or non-alcoholic beverage. In the evening, Metropolis (1927)—the silent, sci-fi masterpiece—will be screened, accompanied by a haunting score played by Peter Krasinski on Trinity’s virtual pipe organ. Metropolis tells the story of a futuristic society beholden to machines, whose distinct worlds of privileged thinkers and downtrodden workers ultimately clash.” Getting topical, aren’t we? “Costumes encouraged! Events are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.”

NOVEMBER 3–DECEMBER 17
“Masters & Pelavin is proud to announce ‘The gates of Eden,’ a solo exhibition of recent work by American artist Karl Klingbiel. The show will include a new body of abstract paintings and large-scale woodblock prints. This will be Klingbiel’s first exhibition at the gallery.” I love his work! The one pictured isn’t my favorite, but I even love it. Click to see it larger (which helps). If I remember correctly, Klingbiel did a partnership with Carini Lang. What I’d really like to see next are throw pillows based on his paintings. Or ceramics.

STARTING NOVEMBER 5
Canal Park Playhouse will screen Little Rascals shorts (with cartoons first) on Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m.

NOVEMBER 7
From State Senator Daniel Squadron: “In March, more than 250 community members joined me for the Third Annual 25th Senate District Community Convention, where I received valuable input on issues from school overcrowding and nightlife concerns to pedestrian safety and subway service. I would like to invite you to join me at an upcoming discussion about what’s next in our community and in Albany. It’s a great opportunity to discuss these topics and more.” It’s 7:30–9 p.m. at Southbridge Houses Community Room, 90 Beekman (at Pearl).

Of course it’s possible Squadron will reschedule so he can catch Pootie Tang at 92YTribeca. Lance Crouther and Chris Rockwill be there in honor of the movie’s 10th anniversary.

NOVEMBER 15–JANUARY 7
“R 20th Century is delighted to announce the opening of Jeff Zimmerman’s third solo exhibition.  ‘Jeff Zimmerman | New Work’ explores extraordinary, inspired and innovative ways of filling an architectural space with his spectacular works in glass.” His work is so beautiful.
