Newsletter: Feb. 1

OK, so I got a little overheated about the New York Times’s piece on living in “Civic Center.” But seriously, is Civic Center an actual neighborhood? Does anyone self-identify as living there? Which leads to the bigger—or at least more contentious—question: What are Tribeca’s boundaries these days?

OPENING AND CLOSING
••• A Tribeca restaurant shutters after more than 20 years.
••• Cosmopolitan Café is in its new home on Chambers. The menu is here.
••• An opening date month for David Bouley’s Brushstroke. Plus: Rivalry with Rosanjin?
••• Pix of Room’s pretty new space on N. Moore.

“If it wasn’t for the fact that you people like healthy food I wouldn’t make whole-wheat pizza!” said chef Christopher Meeker during last week’s pizza-and-wine class at New York Vintners. “I support eating for nutrition—as long as it doesn’t inhibit eating for pleasure.” Hear, hear! (P.S. Love that Meeker’s dad commented on the piece.)

IN THE NEWS
••• Terror trial banished! (The New York Times). Hey, why was Julie Menin photographed up at Rock Center?
••• Given recent events, one is beginning to wonder whether the Battery Park City Ice Rink should’ve waited until nearby construction was completed before opening.
••• How to make a Moomah diorama.

ONE MORE THING
Last week, I snapped a pic of Cosmopolitan Café’s new menu—and later that day, someone emailed me the updated version. I figured the sender worked there, but no! Which was fantastic! Please do what he did and send me any news you see out there, as well as any tips you hear.
