March 19, 2012 Photo Essay

I’ve long thought it would be fun to cover “street fashion,” so I was thrilled when Mona Akhtar (right) agreed to stalk the sidewalks. Naturally, I asked her for a bio: “Mona Akhtar was born in New York City and has lived in Tribeca for three years. She dabbles in art and design and appreciates all things cultured, especially her jazzy neighbors. Her many observations of sharp, quirky, and urban looks (particularly at La Colombe Torrefaction!) inspired this series.”

If the reception to this post is positive and people on the street continue to be responsive—in other words, if she asks you, say yes!—she’ll do more.
