March 1, 2010 Restaurant/Bar News
A lot of people have been wondering—I know, because they ask me—what’s happening at the former Franklin Station Café space at West Broadway at Franklin; workers have been spotted inside and out. Today, I asked the friendly young man working on the south side of the façade what was opening there, and he said, “Next week.” Super. Will it be a restaurant? “Italian.” Great (and not surprising, as I had peeked inside over the weekend and noticed what looks like a pizza oven). What will it be called? “Frankly.” Frankly? Like Frankly Wines? Or Frank in the East Village? “Frank-leen,” he said, making me realize how dense I’d been. “Frank-leen Café.”
