••• Received a nice email from Dan Magan of Church Street Kitchen, the new deli where Kool Bloo briefly was: “This morning, I noticed the mention of our deli/cafe in The Citizen and thought I’d drop you a line. From the appearance, Claudia’s pic was probably taken early Saturday afternoon. We recently moved into the place formerly occupied by Kool Bloo… We took a week to brighten up the place inside and opened for business this week. We’re a family-owned establishment and we feel great about being here long-term. We offer a daily selection of all homemade American food, like roast beef, fried chicken, meatloaf and lasagna and sides, along with fresh fruits and salads, paninis, wraps and made-to-order sandwiches. Our soups are always made from scratch (not using canned broths). We make fresh fruit and vegetable juices, as well as smoothies. Our breakfasts are served up fast and taste great. We’re really proud of our humble shop so far and couldn’t be happier with the neighborhood. ustomers have been fantastic and so have the other businesses nearby in making us feel welcome. I’m so excited about the place that I could carry on and on, but what we’d really love is for you to stop by sometime so we can show you what we’ve got!” Watch what you wish for: I popped by about an hour after Dan emailed. Everyone was as sweet as could be. Dan didn’t want to be in the photo, saying his wife, Christy, and chefs Miguel and Ricky were the stars of the show. Church Street Kitchen is open daily 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., but they may eventually stay open later.
••• Have you seen those flyers someone posted all over about selling a hutch and chair? Would someone please tell her about my offer to run an ad in exchange for a $10 donation to a good cause? Self-respecting Tribecans don’t post their cell phone numbers on lamp posts.
••• Work seems like it’s progressing on Aqua Studio, the fitness facility at 78 Franklin. I saw demolition happening today.
••• Coming up at 92YTribeca: Eurythmics Live (from 1987), which I think I used to own on VHS, on September 13, and Go Ask Alice (1973) with Amy Sedaris participating in a post-screening discussion (“schedule permitting,” which I guess means unless something better comes up?).
••• Press release: “State Senator Daniel Squadron and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer filed amicus briefs today with the New York State Court of Appeals in support of Independence North Tenants and affordable housing, jointly with Congressmember Jerrold Nadler, Council Speaker Christine Quinn, State Senator Tom Duane, Assemblymember Deborah Glick, Assemblymember Brain Kavanagh, Councilmember Margaret Chin, Councilmember Daniel Garodnick and Manhattan Community Board 1.”
••• Masaharu Morimoto’s restaurant appears to still be called Tribeca Canvas (there wasn’t reason to doubt it, I guess). I thought about delivering some flowers just so I could get a peek inside. I’m not above it.

Erik, you make me laugh!
I walked by Church Street Kitchen the other day and the owner was standing outside greeting passersby, offering free bagels and absolutely beaming with pride over his new venture. I didn’t go in (or partake of the free bagel) but it was great to see how excited he was to be a part of the neighborhood. I will definitely stop by to support them. Do you know if they will keep the same hours on weekends? Thanks.
Hi Paul! That was me out there…I’m just the husband and Rodeo Clown/Gopher. My wife, Christy (in the picture) really runs the show. I’m glad you caught whiff of my enthusiasm, which was 100% genuine. I know that once folks get inside, they’re going to love whatever Ricky or Miguel serve up for them. For now, we’re 6am-6pm, 7 days a week, but if I were a betting man, I’d put some scratch on our extending those hours soon, when TWC gets us a phone # and we can start offering more than as hoc delivery. But please stop by sometime and check us out on Facebook (Facebook.com/ChurchStreetKitchen) and Yelp! us once you have tried us. Thanks!
