••• The New York Times learns that the bar coming to the old Grace space at 114 Franklin will be called Theater Bar: “Albert Trummer, an owner of Apotheke, plans this lounge with a stage behind the bar for cocktail-making and music, for late spring. ‘It will be inspired by Vienna and the nightlife of the 1930s and ’40s,’ he said.”

••• “At last week’s full, monthly meeting of Community Board 1 (CB1), the board unanimously passed a resolution calling on the Department of Education (DOE) to allow Lower Manhattan parents whose children have been waitlisted at a Downtown school to opt for any other school within the borders of CB1. […] Because CB1’s resolution is advisory and does not have the force of law, the DOE is under no obligation to comply with it.” (Broadsheet Daily)

••• “To be honest, not many people think about Tribeca Grill these days, except for the 100,000 or more customers who eat there every year,” writes Alan Richman for GQ (via Gothamist). “Next month—the exact date is April 15—Tribeca Grill celebrates its twentieth anniversary. And it’s pretty much forgotten, except by the three million people it has served. That includes Nelson Mandela. Twice. It’s odd that a restaurant offering so much of what diners enjoy, including a foursquare menu of American standards, has drifted so far from public consciousness.”
