This Weekend: The Tribeca Open Artist Studio Tour

This weekend—starting today!—is Tribeca’s biggest annual art event: The Tribeca Open Artist Studio Tour, also known as the TOAST Art Walk, or even just TOAST. It’s an unparalleled opportunity to visit 61 local artists—creating paintings, sculpture, photography, jewelry, and much more—inside their workspaces. If you love art, you’ll be in heaven; if not, you’ll still  have a great time checking out otherwise off-limits studios and meeting the artists.

Studio viewing hours:
••• Friday (today!), May 3: 6-9 p.m.
••• Saturday, May 4: 1-6 p.m.
••• Sunday, May 5: 1-6 p.m.
••• Monday, May 6: 1-6 p.m.

This year’s map is pictured at right—click to enlarge, download it here, or pick up a paper copy at Pearl Paint (308 Canal) or at the T.O.A.S.T. pop-up gallery at 58 Lispenard.

That’s right: For the first time, all T.O.A.S.T. artists will also be exhibiting their work in a gallery, at 58 Lispenard (between Broadway and Church). The free show is called “Think INSIDE the Box,” and space is the central theme—every artist has been given a three- by four-foot square in which to work. “The boxes are predictable, but what’s inside them is not,” says T.O.A.S.T. president Shawn Washburn, who runs the event with treasurer Ruth McLaughlin. The gallery is open 1-6 p.m. daily, through May 12. And the art is for sale, with all pieces priced below $1,000.
