••• I made it over to the World Financial Center Winter Garden to see “Wisdom: Portraits by Andrew Zuckerman” and “Weather Beacon.” The former, up through May 25, is photographs of older people, combined with some of their thoughts. I read Esquire for years, and the magazine did this sort of thing much better. The photos have zero context and the subjects rarely do anything other than stare—leaving the viewer with beautifully lived-in faces that are beautifully lit, and not much else. The quotes (“Nobody can teach me who I am.”) are trite. The only oomph comes from recognizing people you have an affection for—Billie Jean King, say, or Willie Nelson. I’m probably being too harsh—there are worse ways to spend time—but hey, what’s the point of having a blog if you can’t tell it like it is? [Snap! Snap! Snap!] Also, I didn’t like that Zuckerman’s books are for sale in an adjacent booth. I’m exceedingly sensitive to commercialization these days. “Weather Beacon,” meanwhile, is “a new sculpture by artist Erik Guzman [that] will turn weather into art over the course of four seasons, translating weather data received via radio waves into visual representations of spring breezes, winter winds, and everything in between.” I don’t know what that means either—it looks like the inside of a watch—and alas, the weather won round one, when the rain seeped inside the protective casing. People were working on it when I stopped by, and they said it might be working to day or tomorrow. It’ll be around until the Dec. 31—you can’t miss it, it’s right on the plaza outside the Winter Garden.

••• Here’s one to add to the list of restaurant deals: Vino Vino is selling “every bottle in our bar menu” at half off during happy hour (5–7 p.m. Tues.–Sat., all day Sun.–Mon.).
