••• Lani’s Farm at the Saturday Tribeca Greenmarket had a vegetable I had never heard of: celtuce, a cross between celery and lettuce. Naturally, I tweeted it, and @realbutcherbill said he had it at Blue Hill at Stone Farms, that it’s tasty, and the waiter pronounced it sell-toose. Always learning!

••• Election Day is Tuesday, I’ve taken the trouble of researching the various New York State ballot proposals—by which I mean the New York Times’s recommendation on the proposals—and here’s how the Times and I are voting: No on proposal 1 (to authorize casino gambling), and Yes on all the others.

••• From the LMCCC: “The former U.S. Post Office building at 1 Peck Slip will soon serve its community in a different way when it reopens as the Peck Slip School, or P.S. 343, two years from now. Conversion construction at the four-story building began this month, with crews demolishing interiors and erecting two new stories — increasing the total square footage to nearly 73,000. The School Construction Authority is leading the project, which will add 712 kindergarten-through-fifth grade seats to the growing Lower Manhattan residential community.” Below: A rendering (from an oddly far distance?).
