The Downtown Express reports that despite what local leaders said at this week’s Community Board 1 meeting, the Howard Hughes Corporation’s plans for the South Street Seaport—including a 50-story tower—are not on hold after all: “The city’s Economic Development Corp. on Thursday contradicted the assertions of Downtown leaders that the proposed Seaport tower is on hold, and is insisting the project is moving forward on schedule. […] In short, there is no new ‘halt’ or agreement to halt,’ according to the official.” (That might be the most forthcoming thing the EDC has said about the entire process….)
Evidently the task force plans are still in effect, and they may slow down the process, but they may not.

Time for some traffic problems in the Seaport area.
Amazing comment Smithers!
I should have said, Time for some traffic problems in Port Sea.
Well played (as usual), Smithers. Well played.
How many different ways do you need to be told “You have been had” GAME OVER, and it happened with the Cerq Plan in 2003.
I still say the tower is dead in the water. 3 reasons. 1)Gale Brewer is being tested here, big time. Let HHC build, and nobody, even those with million dollar river views, are safe from new developers plunking something down on another newly “saved” pier, walling the city. 2)This tower is right smack dab in front of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. What pol wants to go down as the one who gave that away?3) Hurricane Sandy. Of course, HHC could throw in “affordable housing” and all bets are off.
