••• In an article about how developer Aby Rosen has put a 33-foot-tall Damien Hirst sculpture (of “a beyond-naked pregnant woman with an exposed fetus” where his neighbors—and possibly schoolkids!—in Old Westbury can see it, the New York Times includes an update on 67 Vestry (at West Street), which Rosen wants to tear down and replace with an 11-story condo. “The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission has repeatedly rejected landmarking the building. In a May 6 letter, the former commission chairman Robert B. Tierney explained that while the property’s history had merit, ‘there are numerous more intact buildings within the historic Tribeca districts that encapsulate this area’s warehouse history.’ The commission mentioned in its official rejection that the original design had been substantially altered, with historic windows replaced, the 1910 cornice removed and significant changes made to the ground floor.”
