Seen & Heard: Halloween Candy Buyback

••• Opening Oct. 27 at Front Art Space on Chambers: One Hundred Famous Views of Ego, paintings by artist (and Tribeca pioneer) Joseph Bilger. “Inspired by the wood block series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo by Japanese artist Hiroshige (1797-1858), Mr. Bilger’s new series of paintings use the new World Trade Center tower as a subject, depicted from various viewpoints in New York City. Living in downtown Manhattan for 30 years, he became interested in the way the tower looked during its construction, both the way it evolved itself and the way it changed the environment around it. […] Mr. Bilger expects to continue working on this series for the next few years.”

••• Something appears to be coming to the former newsstand space at 60 Hudson.

60 Hudson newsstand••• November 15 at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center: “Sheila Tubman, otherwise known as Sheila the Great, comes of age in ArtsPower’s lively and poignant musical about discovering the person within. Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great is ArtsPower’s first adaptation of a book written by a still-living author, Judy Blume.” Tickets.

••• Press release: “Light Cycles, a dazzling light installation commissioned by Arts Brookfield in 2013, will return to Brookfield Place on Nov. 2, transforming the Winter Garden’s soaring, 10-story glass atrium into a kaleidoscope of glittering color and light from dusk to midnight daily.” Through Mar. 7. ••• Work is definitely underway at the Spring Street Salt Shed.

Spring Street Salt Shed••• And Adoro Lei, the pizzeria-and-more coming to the former Antarctica space on Hudson (above Canal) says it’s opening soon, but then it’s said that before. The storefront looks nice (or like it will be when it’s done).

Adoro Lei••• From Tony: “Once I heard from TC that more public areas were open around the tower, I walked around the today and saw this. It seems like they are able to extend parts of the tower’s base? maybe to clean/maintain?” No, it’s for Anna Wintour to eject those who disappoint her.

  1. Maybe the moveable glass panels have something to do with the fact that the entire base of the building lights up. I have seen them testing it a few times, but last night was the first night that the entire base was lit all night long. It seems like hugely complicated system. Last night it was all lit with normal warm white light, but I have seen it do colors and even simple moving images during testing. The moving glass panes might be helpful in maintaining what is essentially a giant, multistory screen.

  2. Will do, Erik. I figure we’ll be seeing more of it this week.
