Wyeth, the beautiful “classic modern design” store at Spring and Greenwich (you know, the one with the dark storefront, pictured at right), is opening a second outpost in the area. The news came via a 1stdibs profile: “he new 10,000-square-foot Tribeca storefront, on Canal Street, will largely house the original furniture pieces made in [founder John Birch’s] large Brooklyn workshop, where a dozen full-time employees comprise his crew. Gleaming steel coffee tables in round and biomorphic shapes are something of a specialty.”
I couldn’t put my finger on where 10,000 square feet on Canal would be—the new building going up at 280 West?—so I headed up to Wyeth to ask. Turns out the company is taking over a storefront that’s been sealed up as long as I’ve been paying attention. (That’s it below.) It’s the northeast corner of Canal and Washington, just to the west of the Arman—the address is 533 Canal.
1stdibs says the opening will be in the spring. Wyeth’s craftspeople are building the storefront itself, so it’s sure to look good.
