••• Hard times at 101 Warren: “Condo board: Whole Foods is killing our Tribeca forest. […] The $1 million Manhattan civil suit says Minskoff lured buyers with a serene rooftop forest but then let retail tenant Whole Foods install exhaust fans that killed many of its 101 Austrian pines. ” —New York Post
••• The New York Times looks at the life and work of artist Robert Loughlin—relevant because it mentions Johnson Trading Gallery, which is back at 70 Franklin (where it had a pop-up), but this time it’s by appointment only. I first learned of Loughlin at Mondo Cane, now Patrick Parrish on Lispenard, and I ended up buying some drawings directly from the artist. Not that you necessarily care—I happen to love the one pictured so much that I wanted an excuse to share it.
••• “A jealous Soho real estate investor subjected his much younger girlfriend to a campaign of rape, bondage and humiliation, a shocking new lawsuit charges. […] In April 2014, they moved into a loft at Greenwich and Canal streets, now listed for sale at $5.5 million. That is when the abuse began, she alleges. [The developer] would fly into jealous rages, she says, during which he would force her to have sex with him, threaten to kill her, pull her around the apartment by her nipples and force her to watch violent porn, she alleges.” She’s anonymous, so I made him anonymous, too. —New York Post
