  • The REAL reason restaurants want to go cash-only is to eliminate theft by their own employees. It isn't for convience, that is just a canard so the owner doesn't have to admit they don't trust their own employees. Yes...preparing banks and counting cash is a timesuck...and finding missing cash is a nightmare...but my guess is eliminating theft is at the top of most owners wishlist. Sadly, rliminatimg cash just hits their employees in the pocket more by putting all tips on cards...which means workers take home less cash everyweek. — Restaurantdude on Another Restaurant No Longer Accepts Cash

  • One of my "go to" spots when I was in the mood for soup dumplings and just crazy cheap Chinese food...I dont think these guys raised prices since the 1980's!! Sad to see them go personally. — Bob Jacobs on Excellent Dumpling House Has Moved to Chelsea

  • As much as I too would like to see it, Unfortunately even if Larry landed an anchor tenant tomorrow for 2 World Trade, it is highly improbable the building could be completed by the 20th anniversary which is now less than 4 years away. — Bob Margadonna on Is 3 World Trade Center a Dud?

  • I "heard" not 100 percent sure that Stella is fighting to get it down with the city. Was told they want to leave it up until total job is done which is a year or beyond. It's smells and is dirty on the block. Best Mart is losing business and you never know who is lurking at night under there with the netting. It's an eyesore and depressing on Greenwich Street. I mean at lest take that netting off! — Native on Seen & Heard: Blue Bottle Opens Today at the 9/11 Memorial

  • I don't think that's the right takeaway at all. CB1 pushed WeWork hard for details on exactly what it was planning at the Mailroom, and based its decision on the available information. If anything, in my experience attending those meetings, CB1 is much likelier to be moved by an independent proprietor than a big corporation. — Erik Torkells on Trouble in the Mailroom

  • I've eaten at Excellent Dumpling way too many times to count. The food is, well, excellent. And on what planet is Chelsea cheaper than Chinatown? sigh... — C.J on Excellent Dumpling House Has Moved to Chelsea

  • If someone is violating the rules, you should report them to the police. Pushing someone off a moving bike could end in death, and you would be charged with manslaughter, at a minimum (or murder). You need a new strategy, and the police should ticket anyone breaking the law (eg, bikes on sidewalks or not obeying streets signs, electric bikes where they shouldn’t be, and people pushing people off bikes). Yelling or cursing as the other reader noted may scare - rational -people into doing the right thing next time. — Erik on In the News: Cyclist Killed by Truck

  • i actually had a delivery guy run into my 12lb dog with his bike while i was crossing at chambers in the crosswalk. this is while i had the light, ps234 was letting out and he was going the wrong way on chambers. by some miracle my dog was okay. and no, i didn't push him but i did curse like a sailor! — safe as milk on In the News: Cyclist Killed by Truck

  • yes, the bike path is what i meant. and while we're at it, why do some people insist on walking or running on the bike bath? i've seen people pushing strollers there! how can they not realize that they are supposed to be on the esplanade with the other pedestrians? — safe as milk on In the News: Cyclist Killed by Truck

  • The danger is also from people riding bikes on sidewalks. And, goes without saying, the delivery people on the motorized bikes are a terror. After my small child was hit by a sidewalk bike rider, I have started pushing these people off their bikes when they come near me on the sidewalk. I encourage others todo the same. This seems to be the only effective method to force them off the sidewalk. Police do not ticket for this dangerous activity. — Janice on In the News: Cyclist Killed by Truck
