  • I'm generally a YIMBY because we need housing, this is a living city, and often the NIMBY arguments are too parochial for my tastes. That said, I don't like the 250 Water situation one bit. And Howard Hughes is not a company that I particularly trust. Remember that park we were supposed to get on Pier 17? — malcolm on In the News: Traffic and ambulance response times

  • Your dead wrong for assuming these people will harm your little white children and that a 30 year experienced non profit doesn't know or have ability to run its business safely. it boils down to ya are racist and think ya run and own the street and you dont! this is everyones city and all ya do is steal eveerything and neighborhoods from black and brown people. maybe if ya used your wealth to actually help these people that have been historically held back and down by your ancestors there wouldnt be such a need for this kinds of services in this area..get out of your ubers stop being so scared and walk around and see the need in your area...you think the same people in cardboard box next to the school anyway is safer than same one inside of a facility next to a school which would you think would be less hazardous really! — real new yorker on City proposes another Safe Haven shelter for the Seaport

  • The hole near Murray st near Greenwich is never worked on. Murray st is a disaster bc of that hole plus whatever is going on Greenwich. The M9 bus always get stuck and people are honking all day long. There’s garbage near the hole and it’s made the street such an eyesore. They really need to keep this project moving because sometimes I don’t see people working on it at all which probably creates even more delays. — DTLady on An update on the Greenwich Street construction

  • Our family visiting was also in wonder of the skyrise graffiti. Our guess was repelling as well — Christina on Seen & Heard: Brunch starts at Beefbar

  • Different things can be true at the same time. Not happy with the current mayor on multiple levels. Not happy with trash all over, folks feeling entitled to “vend” anywhere and whenever (like Canal Street) so I am OK with Prop 2. If you go out to Queens or the Bronx you’d be shocked at the massive “vendor” encampments. BTW most of the small stores there are run by immigrants - and stores are suffering from street “vendors”. Lastly might folks feel differently if the “vendors” were selling MAGA stuff? — SLT on Voting starts next Saturday, October 26

  • I guess everyone was not here for the worth street or warren street reconstruction. As DDC reconstructions go, these completion timetable are pretty standard and par for the course. Let's count our blessings, at least they haven't uncovered any cattle runs which might delay the project . — S on An update on the Greenwich Street construction

  • This article has a good explanation of Prop 1, including the hard right’s effort to stir up its followers to vote by promoting far-fetched theories about its reach, including giving voting rights to non-citizens. https://www.thecity.nyc/2024/10/17/era-ballot-question-proposal-1-vote-november/ — SW on Voting starts next Saturday, October 26

  • If you come to this country and are given the Constitutional right to vote for whoever you want to, you should respect this country and learn English so that you can read Vote Gere. It's insulting to have it in different languages. — Sherri Rosen on Voting starts next Saturday, October 26

  • Congratulations to this fantastic team! So glad they got their parade, and now they'll be immortalized with their granite plaque on Broadway. They didn't make it easy, and it wasn't necessarily pretty. But they got it done. — malcolm on New York Liberty takes over Broadway for the day

  • Mia: Prop 1 enshrines reproductive rights in the NY Constitution, which is much more difficult to amend than a statute. The legislature could pass legislation in the future to change existing law so as to restrict reproductive rights. So having this in the Constitution is more protective. This nonsense about Prop 1 allowing immigrants to vote is just that — nonsense — SW on Voting starts next Saturday, October 26

  • Every time I walk down Chambers! BTW, it looks like Big City Smoke shop re-opened on the corner of Church and Park Place. I noticed they removed the "Big" from the name and are now just City Smoke Shop. Any idea how this was allowed after they were shut down? They're definitely still selling weed and don't have a license as far as I can see. Most of the other weed shops that closed in the early summer are long gone. — James S on Cannabis store coming to Broadway and Murray?

  • Thanks for the write up. It's fascinating to hear more detail about what's going on there, and it was very nice of the team to give you a tour.
