You could do an entire series on dealing with the scam calls. Setting: 7.30AM, as I'm getting the kids out the door. My parents are also visiting and just starting to wake up. Me: Hello? Caller: Hello, I’m calling from Microsoft tech support. There’s a problem with your computer and it's sending us a message Me (at the top of my lungs): OH MY GOD!!! NO???? WHICH ONE??? Caller: How many do you have? Me (literally screaming): I HAVE 10!!! YOU HAVE TO TELL ME WHICH ONE????? Caller: Um.. Me: WHICH... ONE? WHAT'S THE MESSAGE?? YOU HAVE TO HELP ME!!! Caller hangs up. My mom is now standing at my door, mildly panicked by all the screaming. The kids haven't even batted an eye. — Christy on My Own Little Metropolitan Diary
Yesterday I counted at least 9 construction/ renovation projects going on simultaneously on one block of leonard street. Starting on church all the way to broadway. Plus the worth street construction work and detours. It is simply unlivable. And noisy. And dirty. The constant trucks. It seems I am the only one that even notices, cares or minds. Are we all so desensitized to this now? And No I am not moving. And by the way the construction going on in the storefront of 74 Leonard is one of the worst. They have been cleaning out that space now for over a year and now building it out. The daily hourly garbage demolition trucks in front have made our life hell. And a Porto potty. Plus they leave the dumpsters in front of my building. We get $300 tickets from sanitation. This is where people live and nobody seems to even acknowledge that people Are here trying to go about their business as well. It's been at least 10 years of this. Never ends. — Grumpy on Seen & Heard: Avocado Store
My son also had to go to the Pediatric ER and was seen quickly, xray and diagnosed within an hour. He received surgery by one of the top pediatric orthopedic surgeons in the city at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital which is a beautiful facility. I also go to 170 William for my annual tests and have been treated great and seen in a very timely manner. I moved all of my doctors to the Weill Practice at 40 Worth. I think they are doing a great job in Lower Manhattan. They have even opened a satellite cancer center on West Broadway. — TribecaMom on In the News: Fragrant Chilean Pickpockets
When St Vincent's was demolished downtown lost its only Pediatric trauma hospital. I'm glad C. Son and others Have been able to get good care, and, indeed, Weill Presbyterian has stepped up its game. However, the need for Our own trauma unit downtown remains unmet. That's scary. — Jean Grillo on In the News: Fragrant Chilean Pickpockets
I respectfully disagree with these comments. The fault here lies with the BPCA. This spokesman's response seems right in line with all the other arrogant things you read coming from the BPCA. Both parking uses are unsightly and offensive to the constituents of BPCA, who the BPCA could clearly not care less about, but they "have authorized" the one use, so it is okay. BPCA should have told the contractors to jump in the Hudson (metaphorically speaking) rather than kowtow to them and furnish them with free parking at the parkgoers' detriment. This is what comes from "absentee" management of the BPCA. — James on Nosy Neighbor: What Are Cars Doing on the Esplanade?
Contractors, please don't take the subway! Your lot can't help but sexually harass everyone in sight. A car parked in a random pedestrian area is preferable to unwelcome groping in a crowded train car. — George on Nosy Neighbor: What Are Cars Doing on the Esplanade?
I agree the more the merrier and if one Shelter sees that a person is not finding the right fit at their Shelter, they should refer them to the Shelter around the corner. I hope both Shelter s do that. — Kay on New Kid on the Block: Best Friends Pet Adoption Center
Why should contractors get to park their private vehicles where others can't? If they can't find a legal parking space, pay for parking or take the subway! — Brian on Nosy Neighbor: What Are Cars Doing on the Esplanade?
Maybe they'll bring back the liquor store bar! I still miss it. — Karen B on In the News: The Future of J. Crew
Embattled top brass of big company with lots of debt resigns. Where have I heard that before? Enron! Don't be surprised. More shoes will drop, trust me. Something is rotten! — Jmac bossman on In the News: The Future of J. Crew
Me too on the jazz - kudos to the Roxy for bringing some live jazz to the neighborhood. — Will on Seen & Heard: Teen Arrested
Seriously, what is it about the (mostly) men who work construction?! Are they afraid of the big scary NYC subways? Pleeease! Commuters are expected to take public transport or pay for parking like everyone else! Why are we indulging such childish demands and making these areas less safe & less enjoyable for the people who PAY huge cc's, mortgages, and rents to live here? We have enough cars on the street, let's keep them off the park space! — NYCLily on Nosy Neighbor: What Are Cars Doing on the Esplanade?
That is false...I worked at J.Crew for several years in the corporate office. Highest sales per square foot? Maybe. But they don't produce more than the 5th aves and Rock Centers of the world...not even close. — LR on In the News: The Future of J. Crew

Staff at Liquor store seem very demoralised ... — Michael Fishberg on In the News: The Future of J. Crew
I gotta believe that's the easiest/cheapest way to store that material before the next project. The municipal govt (dob whomever) ought to regulate but cant be bothered obviously. Its really a shame- local pols reading should take note...and not just when it affects them personally.... — Firsttimecaller on Seen & Heard: Inside the Soho Trader Joe’s

(I am all for certain aspects of "old TriBeCa"…including some of the old stores and businesses….but graffiti and decay are not what I would think of as TriBeCa in its historic prime either) — Marcus on Ode to Canal Street
Why "graffitied splendor"?? Would you characterize it that way if the "splendor" were repeatedly applied to your front door and window? — Marcus on Ode to Canal Street

New signage on the Roxy looks great. Classic neon. And I am biased because I love the Roxy's 2 (two!) floors of live jazz. — Marcus on Seen & Heard: Teen Arrested
The trucks are a hazard. They also destroy the sidewalks (and endanger pedestrians) through their shortcut parking method: driving up and over the sidewalk instead of parallel parking. — Marcus on Seen & Heard: Holland Tunnel Traffic Study Is Mainly About Soho
The trucks are not the issue during rush hour. The Buses are more an issue during pm rush hour. The concern is the constant traffic of trucks using Laight st, last year a bicyllist was killed by a truck. These trucks are about 60,000 lbs, their braking time and distance is longer. They can cause serious injury to a pedestrian even going 20 mph. Not to mention damaging roads and if they jump a curve, sure destruction to anything in its way. That is why the city has designated truck routes. — GPS on Seen & Heard: Holland Tunnel Traffic Study Is Mainly About Soho
