This placard situation is getting ridiculous. My husband is handicapped and has had to struggle to get renewals on his placard. Finally get it and there are so many special placards and fakes that aren't handicapped taking up all the spots. It's not just Tribeca that is seeing these counterfeit $20 bills. My shop near Union Square has taken 2 of them in the past week. I've seen plenty of fake bills over the years; they're all a little different and and these are coming from the same place. Agree that an auction makes a restaurant tenant seem less likely, although an unspecified alteration to the liquor-license has shown up (and been withdrawn) from a couple of recent CB1 agendas. The contents of the restaurant at 221 W Broadway were being auctioned off, which is not uncommon when a restaurant goes bust. It's not clear that anything is happening in the way of a new restaurant tenant, who would probably want to keep much of the kitchen equipment.
