  • It would be nice if there was a vendor ban on the bridge. The congestion isn't any better with the crapola for sale on the carts. I don't recall any of this existing during the Bloomberg admin. — Chris on In the News: Congestion on the Brooklyn Bridge Path

  • Yes, 'possible' and 'probable' are reversed, but things are moving so fast that it's out of date as soon as it's printed anyway. Today several more stores have merchandise and shelves are being stocked and there are people who look like sales staff inside. They have opened the big-screen displays in the West Concourse, and there were half a dozen police dogs being trained in the oculus. — Hudson River on Seen & Heard: World Trade Center Mall Tracking Report

  • It seems like M1-5 is out of place on that street. It's a big bar/club in the middle of a relatively quiet residential street. As far as I know, no other bars or even restaurants there. Maybe it's time they move into a nightlife block. — Vern on CB1 Tribeca Committee: The Unofficial Minutes (February 2016)

  • It's so true about City Hall Park. It's hard to believe that it wasn't that long ago that they spent $20 million to renovate it. Now it doesn't look much better than before they did all the work. — Makes you go "hmmm..." on In the News: Unkempt City Hall Park

  • I walked through the westfield mall yesterday and found it really difficult to get around with a stroller because it was almost impossible to find the elevators. Ended up taking my stroller up an escalator because they told me the elevator was all the way on the other side. — lowphat on Seen & Heard: World Trade Center Mall Tracking Report

  • I don't believe Shake Shak is organic either....high quality and tasty yes, organic.... nope! Still fast foods, still high in fat, still not healthy. Shellac attack on all grounds. But I welcome the option for my once-in-a-while burger. — Valentina on Shake Shack Is Getting Some Competition

  • "I’m not a lawyer" Clearly, because if you were, then you would understand that you cannot force a business to accept cash. Legal tender laws apply to debts incurred and do not regulate the private contract between buyer and seller. — Cayce Pollard on Tribeca’s First No-Cash Restaurant

  • Correction: 3 ducklings are left Spoke to a resident by the pond who has been watching them frequently and here's what I gathered from her: 1) A mother with her young child witnessed a turtle grabbing a duckling's leg and drowning it. After the mother complained about this, the park services removed a turtle 2) At least 1 new turtle is in the pond today, but might be currently too small to cause harm 3) A large bird was also preying on the ducklings (probably a heron). Debate over whether park services should add turtles to the pond given many enjoy them or remove turtles to protect ducklings. Fish are already added by park services, ducks and heron came on their own. — sumo on Seen & Heard: The Lifting of the Street Fair Ban

  • On Friday 7/29 there were 4 ducklings. Yesterday, 8/5 there were 2 ducklings. I haven't seen a turtle in the pond the past week - is it still in there eating the ducklings?! Does anyone know how long the ducklings, assuming they live, stay in the pond before they fly/walk away? — sumo on Seen & Heard: The Lifting of the Street Fair Ban

  • Modern Martial Arts on Reade st — Nicole on Where in Tribeca…?

  • P.S. What I did find surprising was the owners themselves admit to the suffering under Mao, in a Times article I just found, and yet put on the appearance of promoting Mao in the restaurants. Maybe they thought they were being ironic? Like Soviet kitsch? From the article: "''We were afraid some people didn't like to hear the name Mao Zedong,'' he writes, acknowledging that ''many Chinese, including the owners of this restaurant, suffered a lot under Mao's leadership.'' — Aidan on Where to Order Chinese Food in Tribeca

  • I'm sure there are Mao supporters in the world as well as Stalin supporters. My family suffered greatly under communism. I will not support any business that romanticizes them. — Aidan on Where to Order Chinese Food in Tribeca

  • not to get too political but a lot of chinese people would disagree with your take on mao. — j on Where to Order Chinese Food in Tribeca
