  • It's LPC's map. Note that while the intersection of Broadway and Worth is one-half block east of the Tribeca East HD at Worth Street, it is in fact west of the overall easternmost extent of the Tribeca East HD. The Tribeca East HD would not be extended to include this corner, because the building 325-333 Broadway is already an individual landmark. Per the LPC designation report, "The building is a distinguished example of the Renaissance-inspired commercial palaces that flourished from the 1850s through the 1870s in the former wholesale textile and dry goods district of Lower Manhattan now known as Tribeca." http://www.nyc.gov/html/lpc/downloads/pdf/reports/325bway.pdf — James on Wichcraft Rebooted

  • Interesting post Cookie.....I enjoy the street fairs and the change that it brings to the regular routine. The truth is I don't usually buy anything at the fairs but I do enjoy strolling through. I was a little shock that there was no music at the past fair. I have also frequented many of the bars mentioned here as being loud and not good for the hood (Sazon, 20/20). I am also impressed by the amount of solid information on new businesses that are opening in the area. I used this blog for information that serves my needs. I do not live in the area but have been working here for over 25 years. It's not perfect and I don't always agree with what is posted but overall I feel it serves the public well. I hope that you find what you are looking for Cookie..... — Ruben on In the News: Nike Store in the Works

  • Real cool telling us about a new store which sells sneakers made from sweatshop labor. You are the biggest corporate shill out there in NYC blogland, you truly are with your "sponsored" posts and your giving press to corporate businesses. You report about Hank's Juicy Beef but never really covered Carl's Steaks. You report about a Nike store but never did a feature on the indepedent sneaker store on Chambers Street. You shit on street fairs city people work but have no problem with the TriBeCa Film Festival and Taste Of TriBeCa street fairs which employ outsourced i.e. non-TriBeCa/area people and use free labor under the guise of "interns". — Cookie Milk on In the News: Nike Store in the Works

  • At Broadway and Worth, it's just East of Tribeca, according to your map... — Yael on Wichcraft Rebooted

  • "Nor does it mean that they can’t do more to patronize even more local businesses." Many of these film and TV crews are highly patronizing of the people in the neighborhood, ironically. — James on Seen & Heard: Four Seasons Hotel Opening Date

  • Each of our perspectives is different. I live here and acting is my profession. I have been fortunate enough to book some gigs that have shot in the area making my commute so much easier than when I shoot uptown or in NJ. So, many times I have been one of "their own people" and yet still local. And I am thankful for that. I am a union member and these are union gigs. And while many shoots have catering for lunch, more and more frequently, they are doing walk-away meals which means they give actors/crew money to get their own lunch at local establishments. Still have craft services (snacks), just not catered lunch. Wardrobe, props and set often make their purchases in the areas where they are shooting. And of course, if they are doing interiors, the location aka business is getting paid. So, actually, there are often local neighbors benefiting. Doesn't mean that I don't agree that shoots are also disruptive when they come into a neighborhood. Nor does it mean that they can't do more to patronize even more local businesses. I'm just saying that money is coming into the area and some of those employed are your neighbors. Different perspectives, as I said. — S on Seen & Heard: Four Seasons Hotel Opening Date
