  • I can't say enough great things about Delivery Only. I had an issue with one of their items not mentioning nuts were in it. Seamless refunded me but the next day one of their people called me personally and apologized and offered to buy me dinner the next time. Outside of the food allergy issue, everything I've ordered has been very good and in huge portions, so price on Seamless is fair considering what you're getting. — AJ on In the News: Le District’s Final Restaurant Opens Next Week

  • Probably will check out beaubourg again when the weather gets warmer. Went last fall and thought the food and service were pretty horrible. — lowphat on In the News: Le District’s Final Restaurant Opens Next Week

  • Went there for brunch 10 days ago. The menu, food and service were significantly improved since the opening. Appreciated the live music accompaniment, too. Another change: The host/hostess stand moved from the entrance to the dining room to the entrance to the bar area, which makes more sense. While the outdoor dining/bar area is nicely appointed, the interior space needs help. The pastel chairs are shabby: badly stained (poor choice of covering, it seems) and they seat you lower than your companion(s) on the banquette. Also, they need to figure out a floor. Poured concrete with some inlaid timbers seems really out of place. • I absolutely consider the NY Times the paper of record, but nobody is perfect and they are far better than everybody else. That said, this correction is a WHOPPER! LOL! — Luis Vazquez (FiDi Fan Page) on In the News: Le District’s Final Restaurant Opens Next Week

  • After getting screwed for years I came up with a brilliant ordering system: I have a "trick" for ensuring that my entrees never come out too fast. I HATE when I'm eating apps and suddenly the entrees appear! Here's the "secret" I order in "layers". I only order the appetizers! THEN after they come- I order the main dishes. This way they CAN'T be brought out too soon because they don't KNOW what they ARE! Brilliant huh? Of course not all restaurants will allow me to do this- especially if they're "slammed". But try it- you'll see! -Bruce — Bruce on First Impressions: Café Altro Paradiso

  • The Male Red Tailed Hawk found a new mate. The Family Court Officers observed both hawks on the Dept. of Health building. Will they too follow the faith of the recently dead hawk? Once again, the Dept. of health placed down more rat poison on 4/9/16. DEC autopsy result showed rodenticide in the dead female hawk... Please write to your council person, Dept of Parks and Recreation and the Dept. of Health to end the use of poison. Many parks in the city have switched to "Snap Traps". Its safer for wildlife and the environment. — Jean on Seen & Heard: Successful Petition for a Gumball Machine

  • Excellent rebuttal and very important points. Far from being "poorly designed" or "planning failures", many of these 1960s-1970s era POPS (Privately Owned Public Spaces) along Water Street were incredibly innovative, aesthetically imaginative and open-ended responses (influenced by the new urbanists William H. Whyte, Jane Jacobs and Ada Louise Huxtable) to the real challenges and issues posed by downtown urban mega-projects and office towers. 77 Water Street in particular, with its outdoor interactive public art, seating areas, water features, and landscape design was and remains a success. These places, and the important principles they represent, need to be defended defiantly by the community! — james on Open Letter: The FiDi Arcade Plan Warrants a Closer Look

  • I understand why restaurants like asking diners to share dishes, even if I'm so tired of it, but they *have* to remember that meals need to have a rhythm. At High Street on Hudson, our first three dishes came out at once. To the restaurant's credit, they slowed the next round down (after I asked them to). — Erik Torkells on First Impressions: Café Altro Paradiso

  • Went last Wednesday night and had a very similar experience. Food was excellent - the octopus is probably some of the best I've ever had and the gnocchi was so so good. The service was just....odd. Started off kind of weak and then she was around too often and then a really long stretch of time passed before we got our pasta dishes. Overall, would definitely go back though! — Brett on First Impressions: Café Altro Paradiso

  • The noise wasn't bad at CAP the night we went, but I bet it'll get loud as the place picks up steam—lots of hard surfaces.... I don't remember about High Street; I think it was OK. Generally, the economics of restaurants these days seem to force restaurateurs to cram in tables, except of course at the high end. — Erik Torkells on First Impressions: Café Altro Paradiso
