A twisted tale we over stuffed downtowners can weave. The majority of cyclists hardly pose a threat. I Citibike EVERYWHERE & this particular cop was just being mean. The reason why young people can steal the bikes in the 1st place is because riders won't take 3 or 4 seconds to wait & check to make sure the bike has indeed been docked. These temporary bike thieves also return the bikes to docking stations almost all the time which is terribly polite. PeterD & gggg take a deep breathe, shut your eyes & imagine a time long ago when you were young & restless and had a little piece of this great city to yourself...or don't!!! — TG on In the News: Anthropologie Confirms FiDi Store

It is not Brookfield, they don't care (or even know) anything about the community. It was initiated by ps 89 PTA. — Ariane on Seen & Heard: Battery Park City to Get Its Own “Taste of” Event
I love these places. If you need to step off the street to make a phone call, you have them all to yourself. — j frank on Papyrus Is Opening a Tribeca Store
I would guess the folks at PS276 were not even asked or told about it...it seems like a Brookfield sponsored event. Would have been awesome if they included all of the neighborhood restaurants and schools. — Curious on Seen & Heard: Battery Park City to Get Its Own “Taste of” Event
And I ride right by it 3 times a week. Embarrassing. — Andrea on Where in Tribeca…?

DOT's "anti-cobblestone" policy is such that I doubt they have the technical competence anymore to manage the maintenance of Belgian Block pavers. This is tragic, given that once they did a great job of it, trucks and all. They need to decide to keep the skills in house and have a team that goes around the historic districts of Dumbo, West Village, Soho, and Tribeca doing the routine maintenance. And it doesn't have to be a high tech team. They were once beautifully lain by labor that knew what it was doing. — Lynn Ellsworth on The Sorry State of Greenwich Street
Sorry to say it was Keith McNally and Lynn Wagenknecht who made Tribeca. In 1980 they bought Towers Cafeteria, that's when it started with the Saturday night live group .the Odeon is still going strong after so many years and still loved by the old and new comers . Amanda and Chambers Pottery are amazing. I have taken classes there for a good long time and brought my daughter and now god daughter there. Everyone should play with a little mid now and then. Brava for her staying and making us all so happy. — wicki Boyle on Spotlight: Chambers Pottery
Ugh. Not that I hate this store, but it really belongs in Brookfield place, not Reade St. — duane street on Papyrus Is Opening a Tribeca Store
Not everyone wants to feed the world. Some people just want to get themselves a cup of coffee. That's okay too. The multiple uses of profanity here are not the most respectful way to engage people in conversation, whether on the street or online. You probably know it is Dialogue Direct who put on their site: "When you hear the words ‘street fundraiser,’ you should only think of DialogueDirect."(http://www.dialoguejobs.com/what-we-do/) Annoying people on the street on behalf of charities is what has led to the groundswell of opposition and negative press, in my opinion. — James on Seen & Heard: Don’t Give to Charity Muggers
I disagree about 11 North Moore. After seeing the scaffolding come down, I think it's a masterpiece that enhances our neighborhood. What don't you like about it? — Stingray on “Crappy New Construction”
I used to work for the organization, DialogueDirect, for many years. I'm amazed at how little people actually know about that work. We get it, it's annoying, but it works. And it gets people to give to a legitimately good cause. And no, DialogueDirect doesn't employ every canvasser for every charity, James (whoeverthefuck you are). And yes, the money does go directly to the charity, and yes, when this kind of work is outsourced, it is paid for out of the charity's own marketing budget. Look at the filings for either the charity or the company and you'll see that. Just saying stupid ignorant shit on the internet because something annoys you doesn't make it true, and it hurts the ability of an organization who does something that actually helps people be generous and helps a good cause to do their work effectively. The problem isn't canvassers, it's the fact that people would rather wait in line for 20 minutes to overpay for their coffee than to spend two minutes listening to someone who maybe wants to help them give hope to someone who really needs it. And, yes, you can't help everyone, we know. And there are absolutely bad apples out there, just like in any line of work. But it's absolutely legitimate from a business perspective and a moral one, and, as a professional fundraiser working within an non-profit now, I will always respect people that will stand up for something (even if it's just because they're paid to) and try to get the attention of an inattentive and sometimes insensitive public. Just a thought. — Eugene on Seen & Heard: Don’t Give to Charity Muggers
Why are so many caught up in the race of the bike rider? Was the bike stolen, yes or no? A crime was committed and now the perp was apprehended and charged with grand larceny. End of story. — PeterD on In the News: Anthropologie Confirms FiDi Store
Interesting and a good idea as a fundraiser. Just curious as ps 276 and ps 89 always partners on big fundraisers in BPC (like Run for Knowledge) as there are 2 schools here. I wonder why they chose not to partner on this fundraiser. — Ariane on Seen & Heard: Battery Park City to Get Its Own “Taste of” Event

True, NYPD could crack down on cars and make mint on tickets for poor driving. But bikers run redlights far more often than cars - and they kill & injure people, too. In the 80s a family friend was killed by a bike messenger running a redlight at Bway in the 50s. Remember that next time you see a bike delivery guy make a left on red going the wrong way in both directions. — j frank on In the News: Anthropologie Confirms FiDi Store
One contributing factor may be the severe winters during the last two years. The snow plows do a number on the cobblestone streets. If there's a loose stone, it will be ripped up by the plow. — Archie on The Sorry State of Greenwich Street
I can not understand the police ticket people on bikes running red lights, etc, but do nothing about cars that run red lights, blow through stops signs and often seriously injure or kill people. — Ariane on In the News: Anthropologie Confirms FiDi Store
