  • I have a history with 360 Broadway. I am an artist who Lived on the top floor of 360 Broadway from 1970 to 1973. The Blarney Stone bar and restaurant was on the ground floor. My bedroom was in the building that was on Franklin Street. The two buildings - perpendicular to each other - were connected with a small wooden ramp since the floor level of 59 Franklin was about 18 inches lower than the Broadway Building. A heavy sliding metal door permitted me to enter my bedroom which was in the Franklin Street Building. 59 Franklin had a manual freight elevator operator. And at times I would use it. My next door neighbor who used the same 360 Broadway elevator to get to his loft adjacent to mine was Don Gummer just before he met Meryl Streep. There are of course other artist friends, historians and collectors to mentioned who visited me at this loft. Additionally, I have photographs both of the loft, the building and views of the streets from the windows of 360. — Walter Weissman on The latest in the saga (and heartbreak) at Franklin and Broadway

  • It’s particularly concerning now that a subset of this protest group has integrated a Pro-Palestine & Anti-semitic stance into their “climate concerns”. • Some areas here are ripe for speed reduction. However, the block on Park Place from Church Street to Broadway seems to need a speed boost! Last night (July 31), it took 35 minutes (not a typo) for my bus to travel this one block. There appears to be some gargantuan bottleneck on Broadway at that intersection that prevents traffic from Park Place to turn and merge. This is not the first long delay at that location. I'm sure that residents and guests of the Four Seasons, and the Woolworth tower, do not want all of these delayed vehicles spewing pollutants, and making it difficult to cross at either Church Street or Broadway. I understand the safety value of slower speed limits in some areas. I am just pointing out that there is a lot of work that needs to be done to address all of Tribeca's traffic problems. Anyone out there able to help with this problem? — Gary on City to reduce speed limit for Downtown

  • If they dedicate an aisle to travel-size toiletries like BBB, I'll shop there even if they require a ichthys tattoo to enter the store. • I wrote a letter to TC three years ago after inquiries about the shed surrounding PS-234 to the school principal, the school engineer and subsequently to the Dept. of Education, none of which had a clue as to answering the question: "Why has this thing been up for FOUR years now and there is never anyone working on the site - ever!" The south side of PS-34 has been an eyesore for the better part of a decade with the school offices, cafeteria and classrooms on that side of the building existing in a virtual "dark side of the moon." To those who might say, "why complain about it now?" The answer is simple: this condition of eternal eyesore and neglect exists all over Manhattan - including all of the buildings that we live in, which at one time or another will be subject to the facade inspection dictates of Local Law 11. I understand the need for safety precautions, but how about the need to inspect, repair and remove the sheds in less than a decade! — Nicholas de Seve on Construction at PS 234 is wrapping up

  • Thanks for posting Pam. Yes, we have been lamenting and complaining “for years.” We have reached out to the DOB and DOT too many times to count. And that is just the official channels we have taken in an attempt to undo the mess this developer has left us with. I personally want to thank Christopher Marte and his team for working with us directly to address this problem. Agreed that we will have another crater but at least we will soon have the sidewalks and Southeast corner of Franklin and Broadway back for pedestrians. Baby steps. — Peter Balis on Construction fencing could come down soon at 65 Franklin?

  • Oh my- can we dial down the temperature? we all have opinions and convictions( yeah!) but we don't need to snipe at each other. i have expressed my concern about congestion pricing- not bc i don't think it is needed, but bc i think the brushstrokes were too broad. i think i even expressed my opinion on this site that IMHO( as someone who has to make deliveries to the CBD) the vehicles most responsible for the congestion are the VFH(vehicles for hire). an article this past Sunday NYTimes seems to support my opinion. so can congestions pricing do a reset and change/charge those vehicles actually responsible for the congestion and then perhaps lowering the fee for all others? not sure how that would work but i am sure it can be sorted out — madeline c lanciani on City to reduce speed limit for Downtown

  • As "B" so helpfully researched and linked to in earlier Hobby Lobby thread, this quasi religious/spiritual organization was caught by the federal government stealing and smuggling in historical and religious artifacts from Iraq. • There's a hazy line somewhere between (1) promoting biblical values and (2) trying to elect politicians who support biblical values. Part of the job of the IRS is to make sure that tax-exempt organizations don't cross that line into political activity. Biden and the Democrats passed party-line legislation that beefed up IRS resources and enforcement capabilities so they have no excuse for failure to make sure that Ziklag stays on the correct side of the line or loses its tax-exempt status. — Thomas Hagen on In the News: Hobby Lobby and the Christian nationalist agenda

  • There's plenty of problems with traffic patterns during the evening rush hour near the Holland Tunnel. However, Hudson Street and Canal Street are pedestrian paradises and incredibly safe from 3pm until 7pm on weekdays.
