  • They do realize that Duane Park isn't really a large park, but more like a curved sidewalk, right? My daughter will die-in for about 30-35 minutes, but then has to get to a long over due playdate with Katie Von Dooglesworth! And we all know that Katie's mom will NOT be kept waiting. BFFs...hopefully. — Jim Smithers on Seen & Heard: Protest in Duane Park

  • Eric, you are totally right. It is too bad that CB1 could not be more strenuous on this front. Honestly it makes you wonder if Anthony Notaro got $500 to keep CB1 out of it--it is just crazy that his leadership on this front was painfully absent. CB1 could easily have passed a strongly worded resolution demanding transparency of the process--where was the RFP published? What did the RFP contain, what was the scoring template for those proposals? And if they were feeling particularly bold, might they not have passed a resolution saying that they they believe the RFP should include how the new vendor will make the marina an active recreation area in the community. If a vendor has plans to maintain and enhance the marina as part of the community--great. Right now, we don't know and CB1 suspiciously side stepped a strong response. Letters in the Broadsheet are in and of themselves not going to change the momentum. — cami on In the News: Stuyvesant Stockbroker Made It All Up

  • Perhaps, i should have posted here.... Good point Eric. Why are the politicians being so quiet? Also, i attended the rally last night along with close to 300 other people from BPC supporting the local operator, Mike Fortenbaugh. Where were the superstars from Community board 1 BPC Committee on this issue???? Clearly with 300 people supporting, i think that qualifies as community support. Why did CB1 chose NOT to represent the community on this issue??? Why did Community Board 1 BPC only suggest, “giving a resolution which states they don’t support anyone in the RFP?” That was Anthony Notaro’s brilliant idea — and he was serious. I thought he was joking, but alas, he was serious. — Liz on Is the Battle for North Cove Marina Over?

  • Michael runs a very profitable "yacht club" , but runs a terrible marina. No security as to save his profit has left many yachts robbed this year. While the yacht pays a high rate to Michael. He has a personal yacht in the marina which he pays no dockage for and a large sail boat he keeps as a club house where he runs a cash bar from. He also owns the tenders and pays no dockage for those that take people to his second bar the William wall which floats out near the statute. He has had a monopoly and tricked the battery park residents into thinking it was for the community, while he gets rich. — Yacht on Is the Battle for North Cove Marina Over?

  • Ryan Serhant's comment was just plain STUPID! I mentioned the same omitted conversions of 49-51 Chambers and Park Row as blatant omissions in an otherwise great article. p.s. I went to school at Baruch, just a few blocks away from Madison Square, and in the late 70's/early 80's this park was a desolate dangerous park that wasn't the least bit inviting. Almost as bad as Union Square. Of course, Ryan wasn't around back then; therefore his ignorance. — Luis Vazquez (FiDi Fan Page) on In the News: Lululemon Signs on at Brookfield Place

  • I do not sail and have no kids but there is more to this issue than that. It's about allowing successful small businesses to exist without being displaced by a corrupt government process. >>you have no earthly idea what might be in store for North Cove --But many of us have a long history with Brookfield, most of it unpleasant. There was the disruptive West Street tunnel that they wanted; their plans to turn the oval lawn into a trading floor, the marina into a Cirque du Soleil tent, and the staircase into an escalator bank; and the "coming in 2013" renovations that have no end in sight. And if you think that the community will ever get any of the public seating under the trees back, I'm betting that is all going to be turned into restaurant space if the renovations ever get done. >>sailing in lower Manhattan as we know it will end if one individual does not retain unchecked (and NON-transparent) authority to manage the marina, primarily to line his own pockets. --This is a cheap shot. Brookfield wouldn't use it to line its pockets? Presumably anyone who gets the contract will make money from it; it's called earning a living. >>But everyone should stop speculating and wait to see what happens. See above. We have seen what Brookfield has proposed in the past and have good reason not to want them involved. — Hudson River on Is the Battle for North Cove Marina Over?

  • North Cove Marina is a great community resource The Manhattan Sailing Club runs community focused sailing programs , an adult sailing school and children’s sailing camp . The kids have an amazing chance to do something very special in NYC during the summer , sail the harbor in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island -------- wonderful — McNeally on Is the Battle for North Cove Marina Over?

  • DSNY: We have had the same problem in NE Tribeca. After our third fine (they get more costly as they accumulate), I called the DSNY and they sent out a supervisor who I talked to. Their garbage inspectors look at the bags and if they see a violation they write a ticket for the building where the trash is setting. They are supposed to try and get an address from inside the trash, but can't/don't always do this. We are a small building with 4 units and for the most part we are diligent recyclers. Our neighboring rental building puts their trash in front of our building. I had to take photos and show to the DSNY but that still hasn't stopped us from getting violations. A couple of months ago I bumped into the inspector digging through our trash. He was writing us a violation for one small ball of foil and one yogurt cup. Of course the trash was from the neighboring building so I had to show him past photos. He changed the violation to the neighboring building. I don't think this is the last of this. It seems that we should have some recourse other than going to court. — Michael on Seen & Heard: Sanitation Department Shakedown?

  • I think the building on the corner of Ann and Park Row would be a perfect location for H&M (long rumored to be looking for a location in FiDi). With neighbors like Zara, Anthropologie, Gap and Urban Outfitters plus the retailers that will soon join in at the Fulton Center, this is a very valuable and visible retail location. It would be a shame to lose it to office space. — Luis Vazquez (FiDi Fan Page) on The 2015 Anticipation Index

  • FWIW. I was at the Chelsea Fairway not long after the "chatter" and asked a floor manager about it. She said they were told the Tribeca store is "delayed, not cancelled". Also, last week when I was at Century 21 I got into a conversation with a salesperson in their new mini-J&R and he told me that Century 21 bought the rights to the name "J&R" as part of the bankruptcy sale. Also that Century 21 did not take any of the real estate along Park Row and he heard that the newish building at Park Row and Ann Street was going to be covered into offices. — Nicole V on The 2015 Anticipation Index

  • Re DSNY fines - this happens around this time every year. Quota's? Who knows. And yes certainly not worth fighting unless you have absolutely nothing else to do with your time. What I find amusing is that Tribecamom referred to people who put their trash in front of other people's buildings as savvy? Well the adjective I would choose to use also starts with S and ends with a Y Here's today's crossword of the day S _ I _ T Y Savvy is certainly not the word I would use for the people who dishonestly dispose of their garbage in front of other people's buildings leaving someone else to face the consequences of their unlawful actions — Rohin on Seen & Heard: Sanitation Department Shakedown?

  • The cats have been living under the loading dock in that building for a while now - my dog is obsessed with hunting them down - there used to be at least 3 of them, but lately I have only seen one. As several locals have been feeding them, I wonder (and hope) they are not so fearful of people and maybe they can recused before winter weather becomes too harsh. — Remington on Seen & Heard: Sanitation Department Shakedown?

  • They should ticket 171 Duane Street for throwing their trash in the Scalini Fedeli pile on Staple Street or in the sidewalk trash cans at the corner of Hudson & Jay and Hudson & Duane. — Miriam on Seen & Heard: Sanitation Department Shakedown?

  • I have seen a sanitation vehicle and worker meticulously picking through the trash between 2-3am.
