  • A GALA to honor Goldman Sachs & Novogratz? Riiiight. Seems appropriate. I guess I am going to have to tap into those funds I set aside for the Neighborhood Improvement District to buy some tickets and festive attire. I can't wait to live-tweet and live-Instagram my experience (is that even possible?). I hope there is a martini dunk tank. Tribeca really should have more neighborhood galas so it can honor all of its underdogs. — Jim Smithers on Seen & Heard: New Waxing Salon

  • By the way, NW TriBeCa sounds great! — Jeff on No Silver Lining Here

  • Will truly miss Silver Lining. They had the best cocktails and amazing atmosphere with the live jazz bands. Had many an Old Fashioned there. Thanks for the great memories. — Jeff on No Silver Lining Here

  • I stopped by the store today. What a wonderful place! Lots of unusual plants as well as orchids (my favorite). And a custom orchid arrangement just being wrapped for delivery -- absolutely luscious! Mel, you are a genius! — SJW on New Kid on the Block: Mel Furukawa

  • @Torkells - Is it okay to submit photos of my neighbors that I took from my apartment with my telephoto lens? — Jim Smithers on Tribeca: The Film

  • This article brought a smile to my face as I imagined a group of women sitting together at Kaffe planning the business. That's how Hanne and I started Downtown Dance Factory - AT KAFFE! many hours with coffees, pastries and laughs! This is such a great idea for a business - your description of the hours and hours of video and the megabytes of photos with no plan for what to do with it all - I've now got almost 12 years of that! (maybe by now it's more than just megabytes?!) Congrats on an awesome business! — Melanie on My Neighbor, the Entrepreneur: Lisa Ridd

  • I still don't understand why there is any conflict here. The building was built in 1990 - so it is not historic and does not need saving. Over the past 10 years the store has been vacant with a one year stint of a failing pop-up shoe store. And nobody uses that plaza. In fact, there are several vacant stores in this area, and bringing a nice updated store that is not just a pop-up Halloween or pop-up shoe store is great for the area. Who knows, in a few years, this stretch of Broadway will have really nice shops. Lastly, I think what the architect did is great. It looks like a really nice store. — Randy on A Deeper Look at the Harley-Davidson Flagship

  • "Withdrawn: The liquor license application for 5 Beekman" -- Interesting. That's Temple Court. "The Restaurant at All Good Things" needs to suck up to the folks at Eater. And get their PR act together. They're not exactly The Elm even if they are in a basement. — Suzanne F on Seen & Heard: Six Weeks of Karaoke

  • Mel created a beautiful table boutique for me last week. Truly gorgeous and his shop is delightful. — Li Wah on New Kid on the Block: Mel Furukawa

  • @Bill Tsapalas Well Said!!! You just reminded me of how much I love this city...and most importantly, you just answered my question about how "normal" parents raise their kids in the city without having to buy extra bedrooms which would cost ridiculous amount of money as we all know... — H. on Residents Persuade CB1 Committee to Refuse Liquor License to a Diner

  • Thanks Erik, that is kind of wonderful... — Sheila on New Kid on the Block: Mel Furukawa

  • @Sheila: I asked Mel about that when Interviewed him. Here's what he said... The plant is an herb called 'rue,' or in Spanish 'ruda,' believed to have healing powers, and used to ward off or remove evil spells. The little saying on the card is usually recited to a child in distress from a minor injury. Translated, it means: Heal, heal. Ass of the frog. If you don't heal today, heal tomorrow. — Erik Torkells on New Kid on the Block: Mel Furukawa

  • Yeah, Lynn, why did you give up so easily on cobblestoning the Duane Street Park area? I agree that it is really the most pressing issue and concern for Lower Manhattan. Why are we wasting money on floodlights for the WTC anniversary when we could be cobblestoning Duane Park and Staple Street? — Buzz on A Deeper Look at the Harley-Davidson Flagship

  • I just find it hard to believe that any parent would use the "my child" argument when trying to get their way. It just seems so childish. :)! — Buzz on Residents Persuade CB1 Committee to Refuse Liquor License to a Diner
