Wow. Poulakakos is going to get control of another piece of major downtown space. Great. They are going into Pier A, too, aren't they? Any hopes for something exceptional, or even interesting, in these important local spaces are evaporating. Yay mediocrity! — Doug on In the News: FiDi Restaurateur to Run WFC Market
The crosswalk at Vesey should have been opened long before now. The escalators and elevators for the bridge were never reliable and were out of order more often than working for the past three years. If someone cannot use the stairs, you have to go back to Murray in order to cross. There are usually 3 Pedestrian safety people and two traffic agents on that corner why hasn't it been opened? — KerryF on In the News: FiDi Restaurateur to Run WFC Market
Loved this! And I recently read Beautiful Ruins and Rules of Civility Too. I think we have a lot of the same tastes :) — StrollerlessTribecaHottie on Eight New Enthusiasms

Good source for clean and modern design, well-constructed and relatively inexpensive furniture: Room and Board. They have a showroom in Soho, but it's all on-line for ordering. — Meredith Kane on Seen & Heard: Citibank Rendering
Ikea, red hook brooklyn. cheap and modern quality is better than it used to be and they have meatballs — kiff on Seen & Heard: Citibank Rendering

Gloria Jewel is a wonderful boutique, carrying a carefully edited stock of casual wear for all seasons. They offer simple but beautifully designed fashions at surprisingly affordable prices. I never go shopping in the Hamptons but this is one store for which I make an exception. I've loved everything I have purchased there and never miss the store's excellent sales. Awesome news that Megan is bringing her lovely store to Tribeca! — Nelle on Who’s Moving in Next to Drybar
Have you tried CB2 or Room and Board? Not far from here. Also, maybe Gus Modern. — Winnie on Seen & Heard: Citibank Rendering
Iron Chef Morimoto used to be my favorite chef. He was the consummate chef and team player. He didn't steal ingredients (unlike Batali), was humble (unlike Flay), and not a sellout (Wolfgang Puck). I used to love his namesake restaurant, Morimoto, but it's gone down hill over the years. The menu has become outdated, the drinks unoriginal, and the customers scarce. So when I heard that he was opening Tribeca Canvas, I was super excited and eagerly awaited its opening for a year. It sucks. I am officially crossing off cooking lessons with Morimoto from my wish list. full review with pictures here: http://dailyfoodie.blogspot.com/2012/12/tribeca-canvas.html — Weiwei on Private: Tribeca Canvas (Closed)
Re: furniture for stereo, not sure exactly what you're looking for, but have you tried googling "AV racks" and "AV stands"? There are some minimalist looking ones that would work for holding components in the $100-200 range. Re: Citibank, YUCK. — KP on Seen & Heard: Citibank Rendering
@Erik; Thanks for so faithfully posting the Meet & Greet invites. @Darcy: Just as it sounds - this is an ever-moving open house and a way to connect with neighbors and local businesses. This may be a good time to mention that I'm always looking for folks who'd like to host and to thank Frankly Wines and MaxDelivery for being such terrific supporters. It really is amazing to realize that this has gone on for many years. Hope to see you there. If you have any other questions, please contact me directly: dcleaver@tribecapac.org — David Cleaver on Seen & Heard: Prime Duane Park Storefront

@Darcy: I didn't explain it because they've been going on for years now, and I get tired of typing the same thing. Here's a description from the email: Lower Manhattan has certainly been through some interesting times in the past couple of months. Please take this occasion to come together to share our adventures and celebrate the resilience of our community. What better way to warm up a cold winter evening than to meet some neighbors over a spicy thriller or a fiendish detective story. Please join us at The Mysterious Bookshop at 58 Warren Street on Thursday Feb 7 anytime between 6:30 and 9 PM. One of the oldest mystery specialist stores in America, The Mysterious Bookshop is now in its 34th year. They deal in the newest crime fiction as well as first editions and autographed copies. Previously located in midtown, the bookshop now calls Tribeca its home. Everybody’s welcome and this is a FREE event. Come with ideas or just come to shake hands – let us know how we can work together as businesses, families or individuals. If you have never attended a Tribeca Meet & Greet, now’s the time. We have been meeting in a different Tribeca restaurant or business about once a month. We've been able to exchange some ideas, do some networking and have a drink with the neighbors. Some people show up for the full evening, some just drop by to say hello. Frankly Wines at 66 West Broadway will kindly provide some beverages and MaxDelivery will bring some nibblybits. This means that four local businesses (and more!) have joined in presenting this event. If anyone else would like to contribute, please contact me at the address below. We expect to have a friendly group and a terrific time with a chance to learn some useful things about our neighborhood. Please feel free to bring business cards, menus, flyers and other information about you and your business. I am thrilled to say that these get-togethers are now in their eighth year Tribeca Meet and Greet is organized by BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center. — Erik Torkells on Seen & Heard: Prime Duane Park Storefront

It's not just Harry's. 2 Gold and all of their Maiden Street retail is projected to open on or before Valentines Day. Same goes for Luke's Lobster on South William. The opening of the 50 story 2 Gold and its 30 story adjunct is a big deal as thousands of displaced residents will be returning to the area as it quickly recovers from Sandy's devastation. — Luis on Seen & Heard: Prime Duane Park Storefront
even if they are sincere, it just sounds so odd... it's twitter maddness descending on our very intimate comment page... But they are welcome, as all new businesses are welcome, and I hope they do well (in a non cult, non judgmental way) — liat on Self-Improvement on Murray Street
