  • as far as the Clinton rumor..I see them perhaps buying the apartment owned by Richard Parson and his wife..in that premiere bldg on Duane St. (I believe he/they owned the top two floors before divorcing)... seems much more their speed over the White St. Penthouse...which is noisy, just off Canal...ect. I'm basing this on nothing since the Duane St apt. isn't on the market...just a feeling/guess. — Julie on Seen & Heard: New CafĂ© in the Works

  • I, along with a large group was invited to a tasting at the new TriBeCa location last Sunday (amid the construction). The pizzas were really good and the signature salad was tasty too. The owners/managers were great too. — Claudine on New Kid on the Block: American Flatbread Tribeca Hearth

  • I tried Sushi of Gari last night, with the warnings of previous eaters in my head (atmosphere, service, etc.), and for now, I think the restaurant will be a fancy take-out option for me. The food was, unsurprisingly, very delicious and fresh. My boyfriend called the tuna "melt in your mouth." We did not get the omakase, but were incredibly pleased with the Deluxe Sushi Plate, and the Sashimi Plate. However, the atmosphere is SO stark. The restaurant has tried to take some helpful steps, like frosting 2/3 of the windows, and keeping one row of overhead lights turned off, but you can't get around the sterile atmosphere. Lighting is still too harsh, and the restaurant is boringly monochromatic. We did not have a reservation and were sat immediately. I'm confident that people would roll in, but not until they make the space more intimate. Being in such a small room with bright lights highlighting every nook and cranny was a little uncomfortable. As for the service, once we flagged down our server (after ~10 minutes of sitting without menu or water), the service was very time-appropriate and consistent. I feel rather shallow for critiquing the place on aesthetics, but at this price level, I want a fabulous complete experience. That being said, I'll happily dole out the money to get some take out and eat in the comfort of my home, three blocks away...paying for the food, but not the dine. — Tyndale on Sushi of Gari Tribeca

  • They have received their liquor license! We were there for lunch today, and they were stocking the bar. BTW: our lunch was great. Delicious soups and sandwiches, and the freshly made lemonade was perfect. — Suzanne F on Private: Saleya (Closed)

  • It is obvious that landmarked 502 Canal is falling apart because Ponte wants the tenants out & by letting the building go to ruin he can have it condemned & then again we can have another huge, ugly condo built on that sweet property. The same goes for his building on Desbrosses between Washington & West. Isn't it just a little weird that his restaurant building did not get a red notice on it for structural damage from Sandy but the building that he owns & wants the tenants out of just next door further east did get the red notice & tenants are not allowed back in, just saying. — Rosalie on In the News: Tribeca’s Biggest Landowner

  • @Erik (not, that's not me): Don't know much about El Vez.... I'd assume it'll be like the Philly one (http://www.elvezrestaurant.com/). • FYI a friend and I tried out the M9 route today from BPC and when we got to 26th (at Bellevue) the nasty driver with some kind of attitude problem that he was taking out on passengers announced that it was the last stop and refused to give any explanation for the change in route. While the new route has some advantages over the old one, it doesn't go anywhere near Union Square where the old one ended up, which was handy for coming back from the farmer's market with heavy bags. — Hudson River on In the News: Tribeca’s Biggest Landowner

  • I had "snuck" in there a few years ago and couldn't believe the space (the guard let us in). So glad it's being shared. It's incredible and hopefully will be finished.......one day ......maybe in this lifetime. — valentina on A Long, Deep Look Inside Temple Court

  • What a flimsy excuse on Mandel's part. The real reason more likely is that there is no need for another ridiculously high priced private school when all of the public schools in FiDi, Tribeca and BPC are so highly regarded. The storm was just an easy way out. The public schools are so good that we just need more of them as people have made this neighborhood the most desired to raise a family in Manhattan. — Luis on In the News: Preschool Bailing on FiDi
